Any disadvantage to buying Aulani resale?

I haven't been paying much attention to the changes Disney made to perks related to resale contracts. We bought our points a long time ago, don't plan on selling, and haven't been affected.

But now we're thinking of adding on some Aulani points. Can someone please refresh my memory? Are resale contracts treated differently re: perks if we buy Aulani resale, and only stay there?

What about if we want to use Aulani points to stay at WDW or Disneyland?

The main downside to an AUL is it's not the easiest to sell down the road.
The main benefit to buying AUL resale is that's the only place to find a subsidised dues contract and it's fairly cheap.
All resale purchases from now would not be eligible for use at RIV and potentially other future resorts such as new Disneyland hotel. No one can get into Grand Californian hotel unless you own there as not many rooms.

As you are already a full DVC member you still have the other perks and could book new Disneyland DVC with those points.

Disney has never taken a AUL contract in ROFR so you can just lowball every listing until you get a bite. $70-85 not unheard of.

You didn't mention if your original AUL contract is direct or resale, but just a reminder that AUL resale purchases require buyer documents to be notarized. With WDW properties the buyer documents do not.

If you're not in a rush, lowball some offers or wait for a subsidized contract.

All resale points bought today can not be used at RIV and any new resorts moving forward, even if you own points that can because you purchased so long ago.

Other than that, they carry no other restrictions.

Its not the ONLY place, VB has em too, but not nearly as cheap as dues for AUL. VB sub dues are still second highest dues in all of DVC.
