Any thoughts or other recommendations???

Both good cameras. I would go with Kodak Easyshare; a co-worker recently got one just days prior to a vacation, and he took stunning photographs. No real learning curve.

DD is 8yo and she uses a Kodak easy share with no trouble. This past vacation she used my first one and was frusterated with the lens speed so Santa just found a nice 9mp, purple no less :teeth: at a Circuit City closing sale so I think she will be happy to have something more responsive.

Kodak Easy Share software is very simple to use also, and the editing tools, while not spectacular, are fine for most applications.

Thanks !!!! I am thinking she would probably like the color on the Samsung much better than silver. You know 12yo's -- it is all about style!!!!

it's probably a toss-up . . . I'm not overly impressed with a lot of megapixels as the pictures are very large and they eat up memory quickly. Unless I'm doing portraits or other pictures that I plan to enlarge, I shoot on a lower resolution (about 5 megapixel). You might want to see if you can save money on a lower megapix camera. Kids tend to lose stuff or drop things. :)

Kodak Easy Share software is fine, but just know that you can sign up for Picasa . . . free . . . and get slightly better editting software and a very easy to use and access web based sharing website that will work with any camera.

If you are buying her the camera for her to have a camera then don't worry about the color. Get her the one that is best suited to her. Besides, if she never knows that the Samsung was an option she won't miss the color at all.

Personally I would go with the Kodak. I have an Easyshare and we just got a less-advanced model for DS13. They are great cameras...definitely the best digitals we've ever had.
