Hello Dis friends,

Well, I'm thinking about getting my DS9 another skateboard for Christmas -- he loves going on it all the time.

Well, the one he has is a $15 Walmart Hulk skateboard. I've heard of the professional skateboards that sells for $149.

My question to you moms and/or teens or experts. Is there a difference between the two?? Would you recommend it.

Thanks for any of your input!!!

Too old to skateboard now, but yes, HUGE differences, That said, I'm not sure I could justify $149 unless you know he will really use and aprreciate it.

start off with a mid-range. If your child enjoys it/excell at it, then move up. I know that some kids REALLY get into it, and there is a certain status that goes along with certain brands (just like everything else).

My Ds is 9 and had a cheapy skateboard - $20 at Kids R Us. Well for his birthday he got gift cards to a sporting good store and saw nothing he wanted but a $50 skateboard. I didn't want him to get it thinking it was a waste because he already had one. I fiinally caved.

Well, let me tell you. First the new one makes NO noise- at all. He can also turn better and do more tricks. Was worth it.

I would not spend $149 but maybe $60 or so.It does make a difference.

I would get him a real skate board. Because the true difference is amazing. I would get him a Element, Baker ext not walmart or target. As those are cheaper the more expensive name brand ones are much easier to ride and will last a lot longer.

OK, I'm convinced. I'll get him $50 skateboard the next level up.

Thanks!

it's worth it. If you have a local skateboard shop you should be able to get a complete deck, board, etc for around 75. or so, intro level. If he doesn't break the deck doing tricks he can continue to upgrade the wheels, bearings, etc. As the deck wears out he can replace that. There are also some sites in skateboard mags with good packages.

Definitely worth the expense! Start mid-range and let him work his way up. You will see and hear a dramatic difference in how quiet, smooth rolling and easy to maneuver they are. He will be able to do more and for many boys, skateboards are such a part of their young lives, it's a great thing to encourage!

I still have mine from 15 years ago, one of those things I just can't part with from childhood.

My mother bought DS13 (11 at the time) a skateboard. She paid $100 by the time she was done "putting it together". He loved it and used it but wrecked the heck out of it. :guilty: This year for Christmas DS13 & DS9 will be getting just a skate deck. :teeth: It's signed by Tony Hawk (I won it)! They WILL NOT be using it though.

there is huge difference. I have friends that will ONLY use a BAM board. he swears up and down it is better than the others. If he's not dead serious about it, I wouldn't shell out for a BAM or something like that. Go for an Element or something 'cheaper' like that.

My DS who are in there 20's now always ordered skateboards and trucks and wheels from CCS.com. Try there web site. They have nice decks sold separately or good skateboards already to go. A little more expensive but worth it...
