Help.....went to dentist today due to a chipped molar. This tooth has a very large occlusal composite filling. One of the cusps of the tooth chipped off and now my tooth is VERY cold sensitive. Upon examining the tooth, my dentist told me I had a cracked tooth and need a crown. There is no pain upon chewing on this tooth at all. Only cold and hot sensitivity. Do I really need to get a crown for that? I'm scared because my teeth never anesthetize very easily so I'm afraid of the pain.
But maybe he was able to see something you can't on an x-ray/exam? And even though its okay now, a crown would be preventative from infection and further damage?
