Any decent counter service places at MGM?

OK...it's been a looooong time since I was at WDW, but if I remember correctly the counter service places at MGM were awful. After reading through the menus at Deb's web site, I'm not getting real encouraged about any vast improvements. I really want to avoid table service for lunch, since our plans for table service dinners are costing a fortune. Soooo...should I just pack some PB&J's for MGM, or can anyone recommend something edible??

We've never found anything we were too terribly impressed with at MGM. If you can spare the time, walking or catching the boat to the Epcot area resorts are a good alternative. We like Beaches & Cream and the YC Galley.

The area down by TOT has good counter service. It's a bunch of little stands. I wish I could remember the name of it.

Also, The Backlot Express has great burgers.

We've always had problems finding a good place to eat at MGM, both table & counter service. We don't like the menus at Brown Derby & Mama Melrose, we had a bad experience the last time at Sci Fi. We did like the Backlot Express for something quick.

We liked the Back Lot. But one of the main reasons was the fixin's bar. Not too long ago it was posted the fixin's bar was history.
If it's there -- that made the food pretty good for counter. Otherwise -- eh.
Agree -- MGM is lacking. Seems you either have a burger joint or a more $ eatery that is more for atmosphere. Where's an In & Out when ya need it, huh? ;)

I think I'll go ahead & pack the PB&J's. I dislocated my jaw last month, so I don't think I will be ready to wrap my mouth around a big burger by the time we go to WDW. Thanks for the imput everyone! :p

Toluca Legs Turkey Co. is an open-air stand that has really good baked potatos, foot-long hot dogs (with chili if you want) & turkey legs. We've always had good luck with these selections. We found the pizza & salad combo at Toy Story Pizza Planet to be good last spring. Reading this board it sounds like the freshness of the pizzas varies quite a bit, though.

I would second the stands down by ToT. They have chicken, burger, fruit, and some great pizza that we love!!

I have to agree with the majority here, MGM's counter service is lacking. Actually, in general the food options are limited. We do like Prime Time and Brown Derby though...

awhile back I posted a thread on this:

There are also suggestions for other parks, but it seems most agree MGM could use some more unusual places to eat.

We also ate the counter service area by TOT-the food was ok but the prices were hilarious. Only at WDW would I pay that much for chicken and fries.....
