Any Damage at VB?

When I left on Wednesday to go to WDW, the lady at the front desk said not to drive north on I-95 toward Melbourne because it was really bad in that direction. She sent me south to Hwy 60 and across to the Florida turnpike. It only took me a little over two hours, with a lunch stop, to get to WDW, and the rain was no existent or very light. I am so grateful she suggested that route.

Very nice of her to do this....because I was given no such suggestion or alternate route---and I can confirm that I 95 north was bad.

Sorry you didn't have many good days.....Sunday was really awesome most of the day. We were on the beach or in the pools for hours that day. That's the day we spotted the dolphin not far from the beach.

Mahusky :Also, the TV channels were being a bit dramatic, Sebastian hit with 28 inch plus rain and is flooded on US1. I had people calling me to ask if there were truly alligators in the streets! Now Im not suggesting that there wern't areas effected by the entire event and that people down there were not facing extreme hardship. However, I drove on Thursday AM (8/21) down to Sebastian on US1 and I barely saw any standing water let alone flooding. I then drove West on 512 through Fellsmere all the way to Rt 60 and saw much of the same.

It was weird how one either got slammed or skimmed by with barely a thing. I can attest that Melbourne was hit bad. My dd sent me photos from her campus taken on 8/21. And we were using VB as our place to stay all week while orientation was going on at dd's college. It was a mere 35 min drive and a tornado destroyed some 60 homes there. So if VB and Sebastian got by mostly unscathed, they got really lucky. My uncle lives in Sebastian and reported that several people on his block experienced flooding and minor to major roof damage. He has a metal hurricane roof and was so glad he invested in that many years ago. Also, there were fish/snakes/gators roaming neighborhoods in the Melbourne area. Fish were found swimming in people's front lawns. Melbourne International had some concerns too (and my uncle lives about 20 min from here from his home in Sebastian) :
