So my husband is a casual cyclist. Mostly he commutes to work. He recently expressed that he'd like some proper cycling attire. I started to look at a few websites and holy cow it can be expensive. He's not that into it and just wants some short and shirts that stay put with the wind. Any suggestions for those of you out there who are more knowledgeable than me? Our anniversary is coming up at the end of the month and I wanted to get him so clothes. One of my favorite thing about this newer hobby is that the last 3 years gift giving for him has been easy with all the new bike gadgets etc.

Well you can try performance bike. I think its performance.com or something, sorry google it cuz I don't remeber for sure. They have lower prices on some things. Basically some nice bike shorts ( the black spandexy ones and a cycling jersey) The cycling jersey you can get creative on because they have all sorts out there. I have a college one and a few other unique ones. See what h they have that he may be into, cartoons, football, you name it. Also, those can be expensive ( about $70).

We have a bike store here in town that has a lot of stuff "cheap" so sometimes half price but not an awesome selection you know, just standard color jersey so maybe thats an option for you if you have a store you can go look at.

I agree with the statement on not scrimping on good shorts. There are a lot of fun jerseys, but sizing and cut varies greatly. DH is on the thin side at 5'8" and 145-150 and wears a medium in some and larges in others (and some of his larges are very fitted), so sizing does not run like polo shirts and such.

Performance and Nashbar are both good sites, but if he purchases his gear from a local store where they know him, you might have better luck with getting a good fit and something he will like first try with their help. Definitely ask what their return/exchange policy is. We are on a first name basis with everyone in our local store, and they are great at helping me find items for him and getting the right size on what they have to order.

Everything is expensive, but usually lasts a long time, if that helps!

I agree with Kits Mommy...please support your local bike shop...I always give them a chance before going to one of the big mail-order companies.
