I just returned from a Disney Cruise. I took three nieces (13, 11, 5) and a nephew (9). While on the cruise, my DNiece(5) was with the others in the gift shop, and found an antenna topper she wanted to buy for me..... her and I are very close, and she was sure I'd love it. She didn't have spending privileges on her card, so she asked DNephew to help her. He was in line with her when the other girls discovered them. Apparently the antenna topper (which was a captain Mickey) cost $5.00 and one of the girls (the 13 year old I assume) tried to talk her out of it.... told her it was a cheap piece of styrofoam and wasn't worth it. I'm not sure why she did that because she spent money on plenty of "cheap" things in St. Thomas, but I would guess it was just her "teenage control - pick on the little one" coming out in her. Anyway, DNiece(5) started to cry, and I'm not sure exactly what transpired, but DNephew found me to tell me what was going on. When I got there, she had purchased the item, and was in tears over it. I got down on my knees, and she held it out to me.... "I bought this for you. It's for your car antenna." The tears were still on her face, but the look in her eyes told me how proud she was to present me with her special gift. I felt so bad that her surprise had gotten ruined, and her bubble slightly deflated. I told her how much I loved it, and then explained to her and the other girls how a gift picked out like that is special no matter what it is - one time DNiece picked out a Valentine's card for me (she was just a little over 3 at the time).... she found the biggest one on the rack with her favorite character..... unfortunately it was a Dora the Explorer Birthday card, but I will cherish that card forever because she picked it out special for me.

Anyway.... the reason I tell you all this (other than it's just a special story to me), is that my car does not have an antenna - it's built into the window, and I want to display my special gift in a special place so that when she is in my car, or comes to my house, she sees that I have it, and that I love it.

Does anyone have any creative ideas, or places they've put theirs??

Will you be my aunt? :worship:
What a great story! I don't have a good idea for you, unfortunately. Do you write in a journal with a special pen? Maybe it would fit on the end???

Friends without antennas hang their toppers from their rear view mirror.

That is so precious; children and their innocence are a true treasure from God. :sunny: She is lucky to have someone in her life that cherishes her. As far as putting it somewhere, the first thing that came to mind was to somehow glue a magnet to the back of it and put it on your refrig. That way you are reminded all the time about her pure love for you.

What a great story!

Hang it from the rear view mirror or use it on a skewer in a pretty planter in a house.

I have my Minnie or Mickey antenna toppers that someone in the garage I use when at work seems to like also. They usually help themselves to my toppers about every 2-3 months so now I just keep an extras at home as we live about 40 miles away from nearest Disney store and try not to get too disappointed each time it happens.

That story is so sweet! I have that same antenna topper, and I can tell you it is not a piece of junk. It's been on my car for more than a year, and still looks brand new!

I know that MarkRG has some pictures of how he displays his antenna toppers. You can pm him to see, but as I recall, he took some wood and screwed dowel rods in to display the toppers.

Do you have a stereo or cordless phone with an antenna?

I put a slim dowel rod into the hole and stick it in a vase. I actually have a Mickey Mouse vase with a "bouquet" of some of my favorite toppers in it sitting on my armoire.

Cell phone antenna?

On a skewer in a planter is a great idea & I may do that too (since I also have my van antenna within my back passenger window). Why do engineers design those type of antennas? Don't they know we need to display our love for Mickey on our vehicles??? :confused3

We hang some special ones on the Christmas tree. She sounds like a real doll.

see siggy pic for my obsession with them! :teeth: Bamboo Skewers are good for them.

You can also make antenna toppers fit on the ends of pencils or pens and display them in your pencil/pen holder on your desk.

I also have an antenna topper bouquet with wooden skewers in my china cabinet.

I have one threaded with a piece of colored elastic tied on to my rear view mirror.

I use a needle to thread clear fishing line up through the center and make a loop. Then I go back down in the center and tie it off. Just be sure you're leaving a large enough loop. Then loop it over your rearview mirror. They are safer there anyway. I've had them taken when I used to have mine outside the car.

How about on top of a radio antenna, or push the hole all the way through and use as an end for an item with a pull chain such as ceiling fan or lamp.

Anyway.... the reason I tell you all this (other than it's just a special story to me), is that my car does not have an antenna - it's built into the window, and I want to display my special gift in a special place so that when she is in my car, or comes to my house, she sees that I have it, and that I love it.

Ahhhhhhh.... how sweet!!!
Like you.. my car doesn't have a traditional antenna either.. mine's also built into the windshield. I've done several things with my antenna toppers; specially since I've seemed to have accummulated quite a few over the years... (including duplicates that allow me to have some for the car and some for inside).
My "inside ones" I put on wooden skewers, (you know.. pick them up at the grocery store). sometimes I'll arrange them in with seasonal fllowers for centerpiece or for the bay window.. (in a basket or bowl first stuck in styrofoam and covered with spaghum moss)...or a I'll do a bunch of "heads" in a vase.. (yup..even have a Mickey vase that I got at an outlet.
For the car.. I hang them from my rear view mirror.. depending on the sesaon. Right now I have 2 differerent Valentine ones.. hanging at different lengths.. one pink..one red. For hanging, I either push and turn a little screw eye in on the top and hang with ribbon.. (or fishing line) or if I can't find where I put the screw eyes... I "borrow" some of DH's fishing linie... get a sewing needle and make a loop that comes up and through each of the ears. (sorry Mick!) to make a big loop to knot and hang over the rear view mirror.
Best thing about hanging them from the rear view mirror.. they don't get stolen... and they don't get dirty!

My car doesn't have one either, but I go to a craft store and buy a dowel rod and then place the topper on top and stick it in a plant for home decor. I have one on my table right now.

These are GREAT ideas - thank you!!! This is (oh horror of all horrors!) my first antenna topper, so I just had no idea what to do...... I love the rearview mirror thing - that way it's still with my car, and she'll see it when she rides with me..... my DFiance' hates things hanging from there, but he'll just have to put on his big girl panties and deal with it. :lmao:

If I get anymore though, I would seriously consider the bouquet of them, and loved the magnet and pull chain ideas!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
