And did/do you CD at DLR?

I just started using cloth with DD a few months ago, and I love it! Though I'm pretty sure I'm going to use sposies tomorrow, I'd love to hear what your experience and strategy is like for fluffing your baby's bottom on vacation!

Personally I have not used the cloth variety for a long time now, for I find the ease of disposal of the pull up variety to be especially nice and if they are on sale, most economical as well. And...... I don't get a bunched up look nor feel with the pull ups, like depends, unlike with the unsightly lumps and bumps, with the cloth kind, plus the diaper pins can become a bit prickly to say the least in the event that they become loose or just all together open up on me, which can not only be painful but rather embarrassing as well...... picture it............ perusing aisle 3 ....... all of a sudden........ over the loud speaker there is a voice........... lost pull ups aisle 3....... then one realizes that all of a sudden there is a cool breeze where at the moment anyway, it really is not wanted.

Are you driving? How many days are you staying? Can you tell when dd is going to have a BM? How many can you pack?

I would not wash BM diapers no matter how many times you rinse them first in a hotel machine. I would also not want to fly home with those not washed. If you know when dd is going to have a BM then I would put on a disposable for that. But on vacation bad things can happen to tummies too. otherwise predictable kids can be very unpredictable.

If you are staying a lot of days and can't pack a ton because you are flying then I wouldn't bother. It's vacation, do you really want to be doing that much laundry? It's not like it will be so hot that the disposables will hurt that way.

But if you feel stongly about it then go for it. But you asked here so I am thinking you could go either way.

How old is the tot? Maybe she can be toity trained in time for the trip? Hey it is possible. :)
Just say no to a bm when on a trip! Just ask my 90 year young Aunt Gertie.

It's just a day trip, and I'll be making a few of them over the next few months. So I wouldn't have to do laundry.

I'm curious what it's like for only-cloth families. I mean, I can kind of imagine, but I'd like to hear what the routine is like at a theme park. :goodvibes

DD is mostly pt but I used to use cloth at disney. For a day trip nothing should change from your regular routine. Bring a wetbag or plastic shopping bag and keep it in your stroller. Same thing as disposables except you put the diaper in your wetbag instead of throwing it away.

Thanks Evie! I love your name, that's what we call DD (her name is Evelyn).

Hm. We are a cloth only family. I'm not sure why you can't wash poopy dipes in a coin-op machine? Anyway...

I've never taken a kid to Disney (yet!!) but we go on at least 1 family trip every year, if not 2 or 3. The routine doesn't vary much from our home routine. Pack enough dipes in the diaper bag to last the amount of time you anticipate being out for the day plus 2. Store used dipes in wet bag. When you get back to the hotel, empty the diaper bag wet bag and put those diapers in the big laundry bag. Repack diaper bag for next outing. Repeat.

Poop diapers that need to be rinsed present somewhat of a challenge away from home, I have a spray wand I use at home, but away from home, we just shake the solids off as best we can, then rinse in the shower. Diaper goes in the laundry bag.

After 2-3 days, find a coin-op washer. At home, I'd start with a cold rinse, but I skip that at laundromats and go straight to hot wash, cold rinse, then run a second cycle to get all the soap out. Dry.

If it's just a day trip, I'm not sure what the possible problem could be with using cloth - it would be just like a day trip any other place.

If a CDer is thinking of switching to plastic dipes just for a trip, please make sure to do a trial run at home before you leave. More than one person in my CD classes has discovered that their babies are in fact allergic to the chemicals in the plastic diapers, and you do NOT want to find that out midway through Disneyland.

Because people get nervous that the machine won't actually work, and there will be leftovers in it for the next person.

Even my blissfully childfree brother could see that he trusted his washing machine enough (he said "if I didn't trust it to get things clean, I'd get a new one!"), so I'm not sure why others worry about that. :)

Monkey! We were absolutely plastic-free once DS's bum was totally under our control (43 hours post-earthside). And our first two visits to DL were day trips from San Diego. :)

Brought probably ten dipes. 2 wetbags. Couple plastic bags, just in case. When traveling we did use disposable wipes, sometimes, and honestly I can't remember what we did on those first two trips.

We used pocket dipes and AIOs like Bumkins. LOVE Bumkins. They are so ridiculously easy it's not even funny! I think we were still in the land of FuzziBunz for the first DL trip, but we were mainly bumkin'ized for the second.

Change dipe, fold up, put in wetbag. So so so easy.

When we got back to brother's house that night, put small wetbag into big wetbag, where it would be washed when it was time.

But heck, we traveled for about 4 nights up to Vancouver, brought all our dipes...put the clean in one big wetbag, put dirties as they happened into the other wetbag. Then put wetbag into suitcase, took suitcase home with us. We took the train for that trip. It's all easy.

Only type of travel we didn't do while DS was in dipes was a cruise, because we didn't have enough dipes to do an entire 7 days, and our cruiseline of choice (RCCL) doesn't have washers on board. I guess it could be an adventure to find a laundromat in a port, LOL, but it was just never anything we wanted to do.

Disposables were absolutely positively NOT an option for us. I chose them because my mom used them, and she used them because of my extreme reactions to it. I have strong reactions to the diaper aisle at grocery stores, and when I smell a garbage can near a diaper changing station it can make me quite ill (the combo of what's in the diaper and the chemicals in the plastic dipes). Obviously, there are strong reasons for us to use only cloth.

Have fun! Buy Bumkins! :) So so easy. (though side-snap swaddlebees were a late in the game fave, too) E was finished with dipes at 2...took me until he was 2.5 to admit it and do the final wash/put away, but HE was over them much earlier. :)

for day trips I use gdiapers (gdiapers.com). they are flushable diapers. you can buy biodegradable refills at babies r us. and I use flushable kandoo wipes.

Thanks ladies!

I haven't tried Bumkins yet...I do love my Happy Heinys and Fuzzi Bunz! I don't have a proper wetbag. I'm usually not away from home for long enough to need one; I just use a plastic grocery bag for my dirties. But I did find a wetbag on Etsy that matches my Mei Tai, so I'll have to get that one! ;)

My girls are out of diapers these days, but we did use cloth and did use them at DLR. My favorites were always MotherEase AIOs. Though I had several WAHM AIOs that were so darn cute! We did what others mentioned above. Brought ample supply and kept them in wet bags. We did supplement with disposables and therein lies one of our biggest disaster stories. One evening, we were standing in line for Jungle Cruise and our oldest DD who was then 2 was on my hip in my Maya Wrap, when I felt a very warm sensation all over my side (and it wasn't pee:eek:) . Let's just say that my clothes, DD's clothes, and my sling were in VERY bad condition. We made it back to DLH and had the clothes laundered by the hotel laundry. Expensive! We definitely stuck to cloth after that. It would still have been a mess, but not of such monumental proportions. Every time I ever experienced a blow out was when I had an icky disposable on one of my DDs.

Another CDer here. For our 5 day trip this past September, I used sposies. I just didn't want to hassle with laundering away from home. Luckily for us, dd2 has no issues with sposies.

As for day trips near home (since your trip would be a day trip), I use BumGenius pockets. I just pack as many as I think I would need + a few more for good measure. Like you, I just use regular grocery bags to throw my dirty dipes in.

thanks for this thread. I am also a CDer and am waffling about whether or not I want to bring them. I m away for 3 weeks and I am afraid he will get a bad rash if I use spoises....so I am not sure yet in other words.

I'm a CD'ing mama too :goodvibes: When we are traveling I use sposies though mostly because I don't want to have to deal with laundry and making sure I have the right detergent, etc, etc. We are flying also and CD take up a lot of space.

But just here at home she's in cloth 99% of the time. We use Fuzzi Bunz and BumGenius organic AIO and I love them! I just have a smaller wet bag I carry with me. I like the Planet Wise ones!

Well, I ended up opting for sposies yesterday - but the mention of poop blowouts had me concerned, so I used a Thirsties cover over the Pampers! She didn't have much poop, so it wasn't an issue, but it was good to be prepared!

She has never gotten a rash from sposies, but she has gotten rashes from cloth when I've used Charlie's Soap or Planet detergent. So we're sticking with Country Save!

I'm going to invest in a good wetbag and try all-cloth for our next day trip. If she had a big poop the day before, that is! :)

I use CD too- so great to see other Disers using them. I use Blueberry and I love them. I also second using the sposies when at DL. First I carry everything in a backpack and they are just smaller and easier than having to hual around wetbags and stuff. I also am not into doing laundry when on vacation so I just take a break there too. My daughter does get more rashy, but I try to change her often and keep lots of oinment on her.

If you are doing CD on a trip get some liners. I use Kushies- they are flushable and take the poop with them so no rinsing of your diaper. Cleaner, easier- esp on the go!

Yes, I DEFINITELY should get some liners! I'll add that to my list: more Country Save, a wetbag, and some flushable liners. But I'll wait a few days so DH doesn't have bank statement shock after I bought 2 APs yesterday, 2 sets of ears, etc. ;)

I find it's easier to ask for forgiveness once rather than multiple times, so I like to spend all at one time :rotfl:
