Any chance?

I just returned my closing docs and are now waiting to officially close. Is there any chance we will get our points loaded in time to take a trip sometime this year still? I know we are coming up on peak DVC time. We are very flexible on dates. I'm wanting 4-5 nights in a studio. I don't care where, just at Disney. The points are not expiring, I just want to go. Should I keep holding out hope or should I plan something else?

I know studios tend to book first and I only have enough spare points for a studio. I was hoping I wasn't being delirious to hold out hope. I'd love to go in Oct for my birthday but I'm flexible enough that a birthday trip doesn't have to be ON my birthday to be magical. Will SSR or AKV likely be my only options?

Once you have your points you can research by using the resort availability tool under the vacation planning tab on the DVC member site. Right now Oct. is pretty booked for studios everywhere, Nov. has a bit more, but that can change - once you're looking search often as you don't know what will pop up.
You might want to piece a reservation together say 2 nights at AKV and 2 or 3 nights at SSR, or maybe 1 night in a 1 br. then 3 nights in a studio. Or grab what you can, wait list the missing bit and book a room only for cash to fill any gaps which you can cancel if the wait list comes through.

Starting in October WL/VWL is beginning construction and Disney has been moving reservations from WL/VWL to other resorts. So far reservations through December have been contacted so I wouldn't expect any availability this year. WL/VWL construction is expected to continue through 2018

As long as you are flexible you should have no problem unless you want to go during Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years. Call you sales rep if you bought directly through DVC, and he/she may be able to escalate your points so you can make a reservation sooner. SSR is usually the last resort to fill up.

If you are planning to travel October through Marathon weekend in January, you might have problems booking more than a night or two at any resort at WDW.

I didn't know Disney would change existing reservations for planned construction. I would hope they plan enough to prevent enough reservations when they know they are planning an expansion. I'd be so mad to be forced to change especially if that was my home resort and I planned it 11 Mo in advance!

I'd be ok with September travel but beings how this resale process is SO SLOW, I'm starting to think I won't have my points loaded in time to book for Sept. 90 days from our start would put us into Mid Aug. 30-45 days notice for a DVC studio doesn't sound likely to me from what I've read.

It's not, but September is one of the last times of the year to sell out, so that's in your favor.

Also, members who aren't truly firm about a vacation often cancel 31-45 days prior to arrival to avoid the possibility of their points going into holding (That's what happens when you cancel 30 days or less prior to arrival. Holding points automatically expire at the end of the use year and can only be used to book something that is less than 60 days away). So you really just never know when someone's plans may change and it's not uncommon to be able to pick up something at the last minute, even for the more popular times of the year. Some (lucky people) even manage to snag a near-park resort not too far in advance. So unless you need to lock in certain dates (for airfare), it's too soon to give up hope, LOL.

Mid to late January is also a rather slow time for DVC bookings, so if that time works for you, check that out, too. Once you're in the system, the RAT (Resort Availability Tool) will be a good tool to find something that works.

I think getting 4-5 nights in a studio is probably very unlikely for October at this point. If you get points in time you might be able to get something in early Sept. If your heart is set on going this year I would book a different way or plan for a shorter trip in a 1 bedroom which is much more likely to be available for a 2-3 night trip.

My deed recorded over a week ago. I'm chewing my finger nails off waiting on my member number. I need to book a trip for Sept. 19 - 26 in a 1 bedroom....ANYWHERE. This is for my little one's 1st birthday. This process has been soooo slow.

I am right there with you. I have airfare booked for 11 people - not all staying in the same room. My sister is staying on cash and me on my points. Recorded 07/16 and the waiting is terrible. Hoping for a 2 bdrm for early
September!!!

We aren't being forced but contacted and given the option. If Disney is offering to move guests, cash and DVC to other resorts that tells me that either they need empty rooms to work on or that the construction around the resort is expected to be disruptive.

I am hoping to get a 2 bedroom at WLV in Dec. 2016, so in January I reserve using my points do you think construction will be affecting availability?

Initially I assumed that they were moving people because they were waiting empty rooms. Now it's clear that they are trying to fend off guest complaints do to the outside construction.

I now feel that there will be plenty of availability but you will be staying next to some major construction.

hmmm, something to consider. BTW, since my u/y is Dec. when I book in January for Dec. 2016.... I have Dec. 2016 points to use and I can borrow from Dec. 2017 right? this Dec. u/y is going to mess me up because I think we will be going a lot in December.

You need to have the points available at the time of your stay, not when you book.

Will you have used all of your 2015 points?

Yes you can use your 2016 points and borrow from 2017 for your December 2016 stay.
