Hi,

We just booked our 7 night Western Cruise with a sail date of July 20. It'll be our 1st cruise and we are all sooooooooo excited!

My questions is, what are the chances of upgrading to a higher category? We really wanted a Cat. 6 with a veranda and when I called, all that was available was a Cat. 9. I was told to call back once a week to check on availability. Anyone know the possiblity of upgrading?? zero% - 50% - 75%???

Thanks!!

If you're willing to pay for it... 49%. When you get down to the week before you're 60 days out from the cruise, call them everyday. The last few days before the final payment is due is the best opportunity to scoop up someone else's cancelled room.

If you're hoping for complimentary upgrade... 5%.

We are dvc members so we booked using points. We are willing to 'pay in point's' if a room with a veranda or nav. veranda opens up. I do know that we would have to pay an additional $75 fee but it would be worth it to us :O)

thanks again,

My first comment is did they offer to put you on a wait list for a category 6 cabin? I'm not sure if that's a possibility or not, but you could ask. I know they have wait lists for category1 thru 3.

Second comment is that you didn't specify how many people you need the cabin for. I just checked the DCL online quote system for that date and if I specify 4 people in the cabin, the only thing that comes up as available is a category 9. If I specify 3 people, it shows category 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, and 12, so I have to conclude that you have 4 people.

I think Dave has a very valid point that some people will have to cancel or reschedule just before the final payment is due for a cruise, and especially with the difficult economic times. I would intensify my calling efforts from about 3 weeks before final payment date until several days after and I believe you'll be successful.

A quick an easy way to check availability to avoid any "hold time" on the phone with DVC . Go to the DCL website and see if it will give you a cash quote for a Cat 6. If it does, then call DVC.

Also call MS and see if they can get DCL to put you on a wait list for a Cat 6.

I have talked to MS about a wait list and she said that was not possible. I think my best bet it to daily check the cruise cash quote on the DCL site and start calling daily about 3 weeks out from the 60 days. Fingers crossed here :O)

thanks,
