Any Canadian's worried about the hurricanes???

Nope not worried at all they should be all done by the time we arrive down there in Oct.

I've got 1 wk at POR! MNSSHP day of arrival!

I leave NL early Friday AM and change flights in Montreal.... hoping Ike and his aftermath doesn't interfere with my flight plans! Hanna should be giving us rain (not as much as neighbours NB and NS tho!) in the next couple days.

Like you all say, once I'm there, I'm good! Should I be bringing any hurricane preparedness supplies myself? I was planning on getting just minimal groc there for brekkies & late snacks.

woo hoo! 4 work days left! (sounds so much less than 6 real days!)

I think Josaphene would be a bigger problem then Ike honestly as she is set to follow up behind Ike now.

I had read online just a bit earlier (Orlando weather station or news WESH)that "Tropical Depression Josephine dissipated over the far eastern Atlantic on Saturday."... I was hoping they meant it!
But I was kind of figuring that if not, she might not hit until after Friday, if at all.

I just read that Josephine disspated too and they don't expect "her" to come back as anything big.
We'll be at POR too....

We are flying out the 16th and with I am watching the weather!!!
Fingers and toes crossed!

I'm flying out the same day. I have steered clear of the weather station, I'm hoping ignorance is bliss;) .

I have come to appreciate the power of a hurricane, but I always think positive: WDW will be fine while we're down for our visit next week.

Always think positive.

I'm getting a little nervous! We have the left overs of Hanna hitting us today...not that that worries me, after going through Juan I think we're all a lot more educated on the power of storms now!

I guess what worries me is my flight being canclled...I don't mind so much as long as we make it to Florida. Our flight leaves Halifax on the 19th so we are definitely keeping our fingers crossed! I'm guessing by then the current storms should be over...I just hope nothing else major comes!

Hi:

There is no need to panic for Orlando at this point in time. For reference, I use this site as my 'bible' for hurricanes: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

This should help alleviate some concerns.

Thanks!

Hey Tsouth I live on Applebyline close to Derry road! Hello neighbour:)

Greetings from Orlando. We arrived here last Friday amongst the fear of Tropical Storm Hanna and the uncertainty of Hurricane Ike. The weather forecast for the week, when we left, had rain... rain... and more rain all week. We had scattered rain on Friday, blazing sun on Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Sunny with cloudy periods on Tuesday. Today, it was sunny up until 2 pm or so when the heavens opened up and the downpour was incredible. We were at Prime Outlet in the Character Warehouse when the downpour started. We watched, with cast members, in awe as water whoosed down the drainspouts with such ferocity that one cast member mentioned you could probably surf on that. :rotfl:

The rain eventually stopped and it got incredibly steamy. It's been raining off and on since then and it's gotten more steamy each time. Rain is forecast for tomorrow but as with any Florida weather, the only forecast that's accurate is the one made 30 seconds before a weather event.

Today's storm was apparently a fringe benefit of Ike. We've been incredibly lucky with weather.

All I can say is.... don't worry about the hurricanes. I worried all last week and it didn't even come into play.

We went a couple of years ago when Wilma was threatening - I just watched the warnings posted on Southwest's website - as soon as they posted a warning two days before we were to leave, I called and had our flights switched to the day before it was due to hit so we wouldn't be cancelled or delayed - they switched it for no fee whatsoever because they had posted a warning and we were travelling within that four day window. We just got a room at Pop for an AP rate for one night, then moved to OKW to ride out Wilma - stormed all night and morning, then the skies cleared at noon and they opened MK to resort guests only - perfect afternoon of walking onto rides in the beautiful warm sunshine!

I'm not sure what to think. Years ago we went during the same time we are going this time (Sept21). The travel agent that we used warned us about the weather but we forged ahead, in the end we were thrilled that we did. We saw 15-20mins a day around 3pm but that was it. Crowds were very sparse, I wasn't nervous about weather that time around but this time I seem to be more aware of it. I am crossing everything that the weather is manageable. That being said I am assuming that Ike will be a terrible memory to most in the US by the time we land, and as of right now its the last one I've heard of. Anyone else of any others?

was pretty good. 2 days of rain, one day bad lightning storm. Other than that, we had a great time. I'm going to try and put a separate thread on our trip when I am not so tired, lol.

Can you forward directions to this store? We are going down mid October.

F.Y.I -we took a cab from Downtown Disney to one of the outlets (I forgot which one I think it was Premier) and it was 12 bucks each way.
