Hello everyone! We don't yet have a trip planned because we have to save $$ to go. However, my DH has ESRD and does home hemodialysis - we have the machine at home, they deliver all the supplies, he does his own treatments. Before we plan another trip, I need to figure out how much extra money we'll have to save in order to pay for his treatments.

Anybody done hemo down there? How much did it cost, and what centre did you go to? Would it be any cheaper because he can do it all himself, and we would bring all of our own supplies? Thanks for any info you can give me!

Your dialysis center ought to be able to help you with this information. At the very least they should be able to provide you with the name of the nearest center in Orlando/Kissimmee so that you could contact them directly.

They can get me some information, but they don't know the area very well and they keep telling me about the provincial reimbursement rate instead of nailing down an actual out-of-pocket price. I was hoping for some first-hand experience here...hopefully somebody out there has done it!

Have you tried searching the Disabilities Board, or posting your question there? You would most likely be fishing in a bigger pond.

So, I still don't have any good info in the Disney area, but if anyone in South Florida needs in-centre dialysis, our dialysis clinic recommends Universal Kidney Centers in Ft. Lauderdale, Boynton Beach, Pembroke Pines, Davie and Margate-Coral Springs. They accept direct payment from Provincial Health Plans. I wish they would set up a clinic at DW!!

OK dialyzing Canadians! I have some information from Janet at Central Florida Kidney Centers!

In-centre hemodialysis for patients with no insurance involvement, bringing your own meds such as aranesp and venofer, is $500 per treatment. Ontarians get $210 per treatment reimbursed through OHIP, so that brings out of pocket costs to $290 per treatment, plus your own meds.

Contact CFKC to set up appointments for treatment at either the Vineland or Kissimee centres (the closest they have to Disney.) If anyone needs contact info, PM me and I will send you Janet's email and phone.

Glad you found out some info. We looked briefly into it a few years ago. It would have been a little easier when I was on peritoneal dialysis, but then I had to switch back to hemo again. I also was doing home hemo. We were looking at Disneyland rather than Disneyworld, and it was going to add quite a bit to our trip. I have since had a transplant and are now finally going. The kids are quite excited and I am even more excited to give them this experience after all we have been through over the last five years. Good luck with your trip, I hope everything goes smoothly for you. :)

Davita in Celebration will charge Ontarians $300 per treatment plus drugs (you can bring your own instead). This means out of pocket is only $75.
