My dd has decided that she no longer wanted a garden theme in her room, she wanted Disney princesses. Her garden stuff wasn't that old so I told her if we sold her things on ebay (most of it was home interiors) she could redo her room. So we did that and made enough for her new comforter and sheets, now I need ideas on budget decorations to hang up. It doesn't have to be just the Disney princesses, we also liked the crowns, castles, that sort of thing. Any ideas? I broke down and ordered the castle wall shelf on Disneydirect, it was too cute to pass up, although a little expensive and I got her a mesh canopy. She has some personal things on her walls already, awards and stuff. Oh, she's turning 9 in a couple weeks. We already have curtains and a lamp, too. Any other ideas? Any cute things anyone's done for their princesses? princess:

Try finding a coloring book that has the Disney Princess in it . Then color the pages with map pencils. Then Laminate them and hahg them on the wall. This is what I will be doing for my daughters room. Or find a Disney Princess poster to put on the wall. princess:

If you sew or know someone who sews, you should go to the fabric stores or Wal-Mart and check out the Princess princess: fabric. You can make all kinds of things from them. Also you should check out collectionsetc.com. or lakeside.com. They have both had Princess decorations and things for girls rooms at different times. They are both very affordable.

I just paint the walls in a colour that will last, and buy the character stick-up sheets. You peel them, and place them anywhere on the wall. They can be removed and placed somewhere else. They even survived a move into a new house. My daughter can change them as she grows. She has yellow walls, and first had winnie-the-pooh stick-ups and now has Princess ones - the winnie-the-pooh ones made it into her younger sister's room. I simply accessorize her bed to match the theme. I'm in Canada, but picked these up at Wal-mart, Sears, and Home Deopt in the wallcovering sections - priced around $12-15 Cdn.

Target has some cute "castle princess" things. My girls have the Tinkerbelle Disney comforter, sheet, and pillow set (with valances). I was able to get two cute "castle" peg hooks (like to hang a robe on) and a wall plate switch. They had some other items that I didn't need like wastepaper baskets and such. I know the hooks were reasonable and really cute (not cheap looking).

Home Depot had some very cute "Disney Princess" mirrors on sale. They had Snow White, Belle, and Aurora, I think.

My sister did her daughter's room in a princess theme about a year ago. Since then I've seen all sorts of great inexpensive items. Hard for me to put my finger on all the specifics, but if you keep your eyes open there is TONS of princess stuff to be had at low prices.

Home Depot has offical "Disney" paint to match the Disney princess items.

The Party store had lots of cute stuff for parties, some of the items - like tiaras- could be good for longer term decorating.

For a party, I took a huge box and painted it to look like a castle. It came out very cute. You could also consider using a slightly sturdier material for a more solid structure. The acylic paint (I also watered it down) was very inexpensive at the craft store. A year later the box still looks decent! They also have this really cool speckled spray paint now that makes a surface look like stone. You just paint the surface gray, and they spray this stuff on over it. It even gives the surface a little texture. I used it on some outdoor pots a few years ago, and they still look great.

I've seen the netting for over a bed a number of places. I saw a net, specifically for over a girl's bed somewhere very inexpensive - maybe Target or Kmart? Target also has cute room decor, maybe not princess specifically, but they have things like door beads and purple hampers, pink lamps. Check back periodically as they restock every season. They had pink "princess" items for dogs yeterday. (placemats for example) They also had kids' tables for under $8. (see the summer picnic item area)

You could get tulle (veil material) at a craft store like Michael's (any place that sells wedding decoration/favor stuff). They often have various pastel colors. You could make your own bed netting, or curtains (just be certain that the material is flame proof!)

Watch Disney Direct for sales. Also, if you have one nearby, the Disney Store has sales all the time. After last Halloween, we got a costume for this year that was very inexpensive. A week later, and all the left over accessories were very inexpensive - like $2 each! - for shoes, wigs, wands, etc. You could have wall pegs for hanging various costumes, and a framed mirror.

Static stickers are inexpensive, and they stuck to a wooden dresser very well. They can be peeled off easily without leaving any residue. I'm not exactly sure where to find Princess ones, but they are around. They would also work well on a window. I've also seen "jewel" static stickers that could be used to create a very cool stained glass effect on a window. Check a stationary or wrapping paper dept. I've also seen them on checkout isles.

Our local mall has a store called "Club Libby Lu," that specializes in all sorts of tween girl stuff. They do special up-do's with glitter and all that jazz (great for girls' b-day parties), but they also sell room decor. I can't say they are particularly inexpensive, but they have some smaller items.

You might be able to find appropriate movie posters somewhere.

Any where that has a good selection of picture framing (Michael's, for example) will have special 3 dimensional frames that you can put small items into. I forget what they are called, but they look really nice, and the items stay dust free (behind a glass or acrylic cover). You might even be able to find one shaped like the magic rose bell jar from Beauty and the Beast.

Hi. I am buying things my future Disney/scrapbooking room. Today at Walmart, (Ontario,Canada) I got a pack of 30 Tinkerbelle wall stick ups. Now I can't waite to get my room done.

Thanks for the great ideas! I forgot to mention that I can't paint, I'm in military housing, but I'll keep all of the other ideas in mind. I especially want to look for the mirror and robe hooks, she could really use those. Has anyone seen any princess mousepads anywhere? She has a computer in her room, it's really for all of the kids, but since she's the oldest and doesn't have to share her room it's safest in there!

In Home Depot yesterday there was a princess: 'Princesses" lamp for 49.99. I imagine you could craft something similiar with a boudoir lamp & 3 fashion type dolls dressed in Princesses of yr choice.
In the home re-do shows they often craft a 'crown' which is placed on the wall above the headboard, the gathered bed netting, looks as if it flows gracefully down, but the crown is decorative & the netting is stapled to a shelt the crown rests upon & is usually swagged back with tassels or you could do pinbacks. Make the crown out of flashing. Use gloves when doing the cutting. Spray paint a gold or silver, could even affix 'jewels' (from the craft store). Sounds fun!

My dmil gave dd a bookshelf, she loves to read, but it's particle board and pretty ugly looking (dmil thought so, too, but we needed one at the time and it does the job) and I was thinking about getting some pink tulle to match her new canopy and attaching it to the bookshelf as a sort of curtain. Does that sound like it would look tacky? It's a tall with four shelves.

You could purchase books with the Disney Princesses and use them for inexpensive art, purchasing frames from dollar stores or better ones at thrift and garage sales, since you live on base, don't they have awesome garage sales? :cheer2: One book in particular that has gorgeous illustrations without words on one side is the "Disney Princess Play-a-Sound" you can find these very cheap on ebay. The pages are also very large so it will look like professional art when framed. princess: I decorated my DB's(Disney Baby) room in Bessie Pease Gutman prints from a book I purchased on clearance, it was a hit and no one could tell they were just pages from a book! :wave2: Good Luck!!

For Christmas this year we were running short on money between my DH having cancer last year and another surgery, a miscarriage's ER bills, and trying to save everything for our trip to WDW that we could so "Santa" had to take it easy this year. We wanted something that was a bigger gift for our DD4. My parents had moved out of their house last summer and had saved an OLD desk that was mine in high school. I'm sure one like this could be found at a yard sale, Goodwill, a friend, your attic, etc. I simply painted it white. Then I painted the handles pink and attached pink, white, and purple pastel strips of toule down each side of the desk to give it a "princess" look. I used a staple gun to attach the fabric and bought a roll of white beaded ribbon to cover up the staples that I attached with a small glue gun. We found an old white chair to serve as the vanity chair and put a $10.00 pink pillow on it for a cushion. It turned out sooo cute and she loved it! I'm so glad we went full size with everything instead of the miniature that you will find everywhere else because i know she can use it through high school just as I did and we can just keep painting it to match her personality/wants.

Then, we bought a really cute vanity mirrors that has trays for her "makeup" and "curling iron" and "hair dryer" we got from Disney Direct on sale for $8.00 right before Christmas and most of her Christmas we set to go for around $50.00. Hope this makes sense. Couldn't find a picture on the computer of the finished product, but she loves it and calls it her "princess shop beauty desk". She sits in it while I fix her hair everyday. :goodvibes

A friend of mine just gave me this idea today to decorate my daughters room in princesses. You can take fabric, cut out the designs you want and soak it in starch and then just press it on your walls. When it drys it sticks to the walls and comes off with just water. She has done it for both her kids rooms and had no trouble getting it on or off.

We found princess fabric today ($4.99 / yard) -- one that has a large princess design made for a comforter. I am going to hem it and then soak it in the liquid starch and put it up as a mural. I also bought a second piece of this fabric and I am going to cut out the individual princesses and put them around the room. The only thing you need to do if you are going to cut out pieces is go around the edges you are cutting with something called "Fray Check" to make sure the fabric doesnt unravel.

I think this will really look great and the whole thing cost around $15.

I have done this before in different room of my house, but I had forgotten about it. I didn't actually soak the pieces in starch (but they were smaller sized cutouts), I just got them wet, sprayed them with spray starch, sprayed the spot on the wall and stuck it to the wall, then cleaned it up with a paper towel. The only bad thing with that is that if you have a room with high humidity like the bathroom or kitchen (or summer in GA, LOL) they fall right off the walls.
