What are you doing for your dept or employees for Christmas this year? There is a thread on this on the Budget board and the responses are all over the place as to whether or not to give.

What are you doing or what have you done for your constituents in the past? I'm trying to decide myself....

Thanks!!

We have a flooring business and have 4 guys out on jobs + me :)
My wife dose all the job take offs & bookwork.

We have been lucky this year in the summer time the guys + me were getting over 65 hrs a week for about 4 months :thumbsup2

This year each guy will get there full weeks pay from 675.00 to 835.00
+ around $ 500.00 to my lead installers will get $800 to $1,000

Good help is hard to find so I try to take care of the guys that take care of me :goodvibes

Wow! Now that's generous!

We do only Commercial jobs ( Tile & Epoxy flooring )
I can send the guys out with prints in hand and never have to worry about the job or the guys not getting it done the right way :thumbsup2

Some of the GCs we have been doing there work for over 18 yrs so that why I take care of them.

I usually gave the people in my department gift cards to restaurants or movies. Something little to let them know that I appreciated them.

Not a boss, but I'll tell you my favorite gift: a $25 gift card to Borders. Another favorite: one of those simple fleece blankets.

If you are looking for something even less expensive lottery scratch offs are fun too. I used to have a boss that gave us those in little stockings and it was always fun to see who won "big" (usually $10 or less!!) He had a big family and it was a Grocery store not wall street, so none of us felt like it was a cheap gift.

I supervise seven people and give gifts each Christmas. I try to keep the cost down by buying things after Christmas, etc.. I gave scarfs from Old Navy & wraped them up. Each employed picked a box then could trade w/ each other (had 7 different scarfs). I gave a movie basket w/ a bowl from dollar tree, bottle of favorite soda, 2 boxes movie candy and box of microwave popcorn (from dollar tree) along w/ gift card for 1 movie rental. I've given fleece blakets w/ hand lotion and chapstick. This yr. I'm giving assorted wall flowers from B&BW w/ a double refill. They were on mega sale when the new style of wall flower was being put on the shelves.
I can't buy lavish gifts, but I want to get my employees something. :)

Great idea! I may do this next year :thumbsup2

I'm giving my secretary her annual cash tribute. Now that I've been practicing a few years I expect her expectations to be higher. That is slightly annoying, however, cash gifts to our assistants is just how we roll.

I supervise about 200 people. I usually give plates of homemade cookies, about 3 per person. (yes this is 50 dozen cookies ) Even if I bought dollar store items, it would be far too expensive for me to give everyone an individual gift.

One year, I got tired of making so many cookies, and I did red velvet cakes instead. These were VERY well, received btw, but I'll never do it again. When DH came home to find 32 layers of red velvet cake cooling in the kitchen (and the dining room, and the living room, etc. lol) he looked around at it all and said, "How are you transporting all these cakes to work?" Oh wow, I hadn't thought of that. It was a nightmare, seriously. Never again. But everyone really liked them.

I guess I'm just doing cookies again this year. I also add a card with a simple note like "Thanks for all your hard work this year" or something similar. People like knowing they are appreicated.

We have done various things over the years for DH's staff-usually around 25 people or so. We have hosted a nice Christmas party at a restaurant and given gifts. One year we did personalized door knockers as a lot of his staff had moved into new houses that year. One year we got them each a set of funky wine glasses (by far the favorite gift we gave). It is really hard when you don't know everyone all that well. For my staff I give Gift Cards. Last year was for the Mall of America, this year I think I am giving Target Gift Cards.

Wow, I'll take a red velvet cake!! :thumbsup2

I'm KNOWN for my cookies but I've done them for everybody's birthday so I have to come up with something else this time.

I like the gc idea, I'm giving my team mall gcs. I used to get them yearly from my old company and we LOVED getting them! :thumbsup2

My DH only has a couple of people working for him byt we do 1lb boxes of See's candy. That way I can buy some for us at the same time.

I am a department supervisor in for a major retail company, and I have 8 people that work for me. Usually I do candy bags for all of my employees, but I would like to do something different this year. I like the idea of the scratch off lottery tickets.

Wow, I work in a hospital, and we all took a 5% paycut so we didn't have to eliminate jobs. We won't do anything for employees this year. I supervise 5 department managers, I think on my dime I will take them to lunch.

Myself and the other managers (we have 45 staff members between us) host a catered luncheon with door prizes and such. This has been what has been done for years. The staff enjoys it, and it doesn't cost us an arm and a leg.

I bought my ladies all some Bath and Body Works soap. Everyone loves the scents so when it was on sale a few months ago I stocked up. My dh has been unemployed so I am not able to spend too much. He will start a new job in a week or so and I hope to find something else to add to their soap.
