Any Black Friday Shoppers?

I do go Thanksgiving morning to our Meijer. They always have $10-12 coats on sale that morning so I buy a few for Angel Tree gifts, Adopt a Family, etc. I figure they're open anyway and they only have 2 or 3 registers open so I don't think I'm putting anyone out.

What a sweet idea! It is tradition for oldest dd and I to black Friday shop.

Use to love the thrill of BF but that has been lost with stores now open on Thanksgiving. Sorry, but I feel there are few holidays left that aren't taken over by Our need for greed!

Me too! The first year they started on thanksgiving night I went to target only to find every parking space taken. I turned around and went back home. I wasn't really keen on the thanksgiving idea in the first place and now it's just gotten out of hand. I've been Black Friday Internet shopping ever since. Cyber Monday is also my new holiday!

I always just watched in the background, but now that I am buying for DD, we hope to hit some stores. I live across the street from Target, so thats an easy stop. Once I see what Walmart has, we will also head there

I agree. A local mall is opening at 6pm on Thanksgiving this year.

I will be shopping, probably by myself. I have to work all day Friday, usually go out all night Thursday night, then drink ALOT of caffeine to keep me awake Friday. I love it, but don't like that they open before midnight, i like to spend the day with my family.

I really hope that the NFLStore online will have a sale. I want to buy my boys new jerseys for Christmas. Also hoping I can get some good buys on VS Pink, my ds girlfriend loves that clothing line. I also need a laptop. Those are my focus items this year so lets hope we all find some awesome buys.

Costco is one of the few stores that can get away with not opening on Thanksgiving. Many of the brick and mortar stores are justifiably concerned that they will be out of business in 10 years if they keep operating the way that always have. The world is changing and the stores that don't keep up will be out of business.

Im calling bs on that.

If you market it right with great pr of real family values.

Great sales on Wednesday and pr that Thursday is a day for rest and reflect, but Friday is back to shopping with amazing deal.

Do you really think Costco is losing money by not opening Thursday or gaining respect for their values.

American Girl is usually part of the Today show's steals and deals and happens before Black Friday. Some kind hearted poster usually posts about it here but I'm never quick enough. I should probably just start watching the Today show!

American girl had their today show offer last month. Thanks to this board I was able to catch it! I'm not sure how often they repeat the offer.

I've shifted mostly to online BF deals these days. Feelings about demanding low-wage employees work holidays aside, I just plain don't care enough about saving money to let it detract from spending the holiday with my family so as the best deals have crept into Thursday I don't bother any more.

Of course Costco is losing money by not being open on Holidays. Go to the other Costco threads on these boards and see why people were shopping at Sams or BJs. The number one complaint about Costco was its "limited" hours.

Some stores don't though. I have a friend who manages a retail store and revealed their sales were the same wether they opened only on Friday or included Thursday. Technically in their scenario they lost money by being opened on Thursday since they had to pay employees more hours. Opening on Thursday only spread out the sales over two days.

I used to out on BF when my girls were younger. For about the last 3 years I get up at 12mn and shop online. With all the free shipping codes I feel that is where my savings come in to play. I shop all year round for my girls now 6&10. Thanks to the budget boards and Hip2Save.com I save thousands a year. I am almost done with the girls. For family it is gift cards etc so pretty easy. I have a daughter with a Feb bday so I am currently stocking up for her. I am not a crowd person so my home is the best place to be.
