Just that really

I have just booked 10 days from 12/26 (mad I know) and have booked a standard room as that is all available - hoping a club room or a room at the Contemporary will open up at some point before we go and if it does will be amending the reservation.

I know it's a $200 deposit rather that the 1st night and cost of the tickets up front but I guess I'm worried about when we get to booking Fast passes and then having to cancel the package and re book and what effect this has on anything booked linked to the park tickets - how likely are we to lose the booked fast passes?

TIA

If you think you might be changing the dates of your trip then you are better off booking room only and purchasing tickets separately. There is a charge to change a package when you are less than 30 days out while there isn't a fee for changes to room only reservations that are more than five days out. In addition to that, If you buy tickets separately and then change your resort dates, any fastpasses you made won't be affected if you are within 30 days of check in date. Package tickets don't become active until check in date while tickets purchased separately become active when they are purchased. Your balance on a room only reservation isn't due until check in date while you have to pay in full 30 days out for a package. That is something to think about at Christmas time. :) You would want to purchase your tickets at least 60 days out so that you can make fastpasses. :)

You would not be canceling. You would be modifying your reservation. Even with under 30 left to go, Disney generally waives the change fee if the change results in you spending more money. So, if you had a package and modified the room portion, nothing would happen to your FP+. If you were to cancel a package completely, you would be given 24 hours to attach valid admission media to your account. The FP+ would not be canceled immediately.

I think you'll be fine either way. However, if you think any change you're going to make will change your number of park days, then I recommend the package, as once you purchase park tickets separately, you can't increase the number of days until you're at WDW (so you wouldn't get to make advance FPs on the new ones).

Advantages of packages include mini-perks such as luggage tags and vouchers for mini-golf. And of course, only having to make a $200 downpayment, and having the whole package be refundable up until 30 days prior, whereas the moment you've purchased separate park tickets, they're nonrefundable.

If you have a package booked and a more preferred room pops up, simply modify your package. You won't lose any FP+ or ADR's. Even if you were to cancel a package and re-book a room-only, as long as you have valid ticket media linked to your account prior to cancelling a package, you won't lose any FP+.
