DH and I are taking the kids back to Disney (last trip was Sept 09) and my ADR's are ready to book in March. I keep looking through the guide books and reading threads but I really just want to go to the SAME places we went last time. It was a perfect trip with only a few minor changes (I disliked Crystal Palace and the playhouse disney lunch at DHS). Am I crazy to book the same character meals again?

If you are crazy then I am right there with you....

We have a number of places that we always try to go to and have done that for years now. So book where YOU and your family want to eat - if you enjoy it then go with it!

This is our third trip and we are not doing any repeats this time. All ADR's will be new places to us. Last trip the only repeat we had was O'hana for dinner. We loved it so much the first time, but not so crazy about it the second time. So I decided we'd try breakfast there this time. There are just so many places I want to try and can only do so many each trip. This trip we are doing:

50's Prime Time dinner
Tusker House breakfast
The Plaza dinner
Rose & Crown dinner
O'hanas breakfast

Others that we've not done yet that I really want to try are Le Cellier, Kona and Les Chefs to see Remy, but the food there is really not interesting to us.

The only thing I'd caution you about it that you want to try to avoid comparing this vacation to your previous one. It struck me that you said your previous trip was a perfect trip. It's pretty difficult for something to live up to that kind of memory. You may be setting yourself up for diappointment. What I like about choosing new things each trip is that each trip becomes its own unique experience. We do go back to some favourites each trip but we try to alternate some of our choices so it's never exactly the same.

We know what we like, and we keep booking the same things! Ohana, Rose & Crown, Le Cellier, and Teppan Edo are our staples. (We've added Kouzzina to this list, now!) We only have R&C and Kouzzina reservations for this next trip, but I have a feeling we will try to make reservations to the others when we get there or try a walk-up!

We do a mix - we go back to the places where we had a phenomenal experience and loved the food. We don't repeat the places where everything was just an okay meal/same experience we could have at home in a restaurant. Those okay experiences, we swap out for something new. :)

Not crazy at all. There are a few restaurants that we try to get each trip and tend to only throw in one new restaurant each trip. Since you are paying for it go with what you know you like or want.

i agree that a mix is probably the best way to do it, last trip we did:
ts:
t-rex
boma
akershaus
california grille
via napoli
1900 park fare

cs:
pacos bill
studio catering company
sunshine seasons
yak and yeti local cafe
cosmic ray's

we loved boma and will probably go there every trip from here on out, but the rest are interchangeable :)

Sorta. Last time we were there, we did Cape May (breakfast), Akershus (Dinner), Garden Grill, Teppan Edo, Biergarten, 50s Prime Time, Tutto Italia and Crystal Palace. This time, we'll do all of them again except Garden Grill and Tutto Italia. My dh and kids are insisting on Biergarten and Teppan Edo, and DD really wants to go back to Akershus, Crystal Palace and 50s Prime Time. So, yeah...we'll do the same ones, but also add a bunch more.

On our Dec. 2010 trip, we set out to try new restaurants. But repeated several.

By the way, we didn't like the food at Hollywood and Vine's Playhouse Disney lunch in 2009 but our breakfast there in Dec. 2010 was great... there was plenty of delicious food. Plus, Handy Manny and Agent Oso (plus 2 Lil Einsteins) were there instead of it all being Little Einsteins. The character interactions were the same -- kids dancing with characters and cast members to the PD music.

Our other repeat character meals were Tusker House, Crystal Palace lunch. We tried new ones -- Cape May Cafe breakfast, Garden Grill, and 1900 Park Fare dinner. We were going to repeat Ohana breakfast but saw Lilo and Stitch in the parks, so we canceled that one.

When we go again, I'm sure we will repeat many of the same character meals... it will just depend on where we are staying and if the characters change.... If nothing changes, I'm certain we would repeat these for an early breakfast - I like being in the park before opening (makes for nice photos without people in the background)...

Tusker House
Hollywood and Vine - breakfast
Crystal Palace - breakfast

I'd say 99% of the time we go to the same restaurants. We know what we like! Every once in a while we'll throw a new one in the mix or one restaurant will take the place of another if we find we like it better. :goodvibes

We do a mix. We have our favorite places that we tend to frequent. But we also make sure we take in a new/different place as well. After all, how do you know you're not missing a better place if you don't try it?

So many restaurants; so little time.

Alot of people have their favorite places and tend to go back to them every trip..we do that too! We have tried almost all the restaurants and know what we like and what we dont so that makes it much easier on us.

We have our ones that we love and always do and this will 5times at WCC, my wife is upset that we are not going to CMicks. We are trying almost all new ones this time I am excited but my family is not as adventurous. After this trip we will be able to settle in and eat the ones we want and maybe try a new one in the future.

We have a few "must do's" that we revisit every trip. Through the years theses have changed quite a bit. Eventually we get sick of something or find a new place we want to return to, etc. Each trip we try at least one new place. But there is a core few that never change.

I guess it all comes down to what your family likes. Nothing wrong with only going to the same places. Do what makes you and your family happy!

We eat at 90% of the same places every time. This trip, we've decided that we are trying 90% new places, and trying more restaurants in resorts. We've never eaten at Ohana or Jiko so those are on my list.

I tend to stick to a few that I know I love, and get a few new ones in each time.... and occasionally the "new" try ends up replacing and old fav;) but I always make a list of "must haves".... "want to trys".... and "old favs" for booking my ADR's incase I dont get my first choice!!!

We are going to try all new places this time, mostly just because so much of it looks good, we want to try it all and don't want to duplicate a vacation.

That for 2 adults though, if I had kids with me and knew what they liked and worked well for them, I'd probably be more inclined to repeats. :)

This is the best thing to do when planning - heck, I've even got to the point where I make a sub-list of food and drinks to try at each restaurant

So far for my next trip my 'must have' is Le Cellier, my 'wants to try' is Raglan Road (bring on the beer flights!), and my 'old fav' is 50's Prime Time... get your elbows off the table!

I have always been one that had my staples for dining at Disney. Crystal Palace, Ohana to name a couple....

And I also had a couple places that I'd always wanted to try but never had the chance.

I found myself in the predicament of being well within the 90 days for ADRs during free dining. Needless to say most of my favorites were gone. Because of this I tried a few new places that I really loved and can't wait to go back to! (Whispering Canyon Cafe...YUM!!!) And I'll definitely be incorporating at least 1 new restaurant into every trip from now on :)
