Hi, my husband,Barry and I and 2 boys - Zachary6) and Daniel(15mths) are coming to Orlando 10-20 Dec 2001.
My husband is totally blnd and my eldest suffers from ADHD and slight Aspergers Syndrome. He is currently on Ritalin for his ADHD and he is doing brilliantly now with no side effects aprt from a tendency to stay up late - but then don't most kids his age suffer from that!
Anyway I've heard about the GAC so I know to head for Guest Services.
We are staying offsite at the Quality Inn plaza for the first half and doing Univesal/Seaworld/busch Gdns and then moving to All stars movies - Zach adores Buzz L/Yr. fo rthe second half.
Does anyone have any advice?
Do Universal do any sort of GAC?
Is there anything in particular my husband will really love??? - It took a lot to persuade him to come with me.
Anyway thanks in advance for any advice

My mom is totally blind... She loves anything with lots of talking... the more talking, the less description has to be whispered to her... Shows such as the American Adventure - especially when preceded by the Voices of Liberty... Rides like the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Carribean, and Jungle Cruise.

I'm sure there's more, it's just late... I'll ask her tomorrow

You might want to look at our page for Guests With Visual Disabilities . Also, be sure to check out the information in the FAQ - some of the links are broken, but you can learn more about the GAC and traveling with special needs. Just click on the link in my signature. :)

Universal also has some provision for guests with disabilities, but I am not sure what services they offer to folks with visual disabilities. anyone?

Looking at the ages of your children, some of the things your Dh might like would be not appropriate for kids that young (the 2 I'm writing about would not be good at all ). One show he might really enjoy is Alien Encounter. Since most of it takes place in the dark (to disorient and scare those of us who can see), he will not miss out on much of the experience.
Last time we went to WDW, we rode the Kali River Rpaids with a party that included a visually impaired man. His companions gave him brief desriptions of the scenes we were entering, but it mostly happened so fast that it was just an experience.
No one has ever written about services for the visually impaired at universal that I know of.

I would also like to suggest the Drew Carey Sound Effects show at MGM....

You spent alot of time in the dark listening to sounds if things Drew is dealing with....and its alot of fun! :)

You might want to also check out http://www.orlandotripplanner.com for disability information on SeaWorld and Universal (also available for Kennedy Space Center, WDW and Discovery Cove) - there is a link to Special Needs pages there.

I can't be of much help for your husband, but my son Loves Buzz lightyear too. When you check in at ASMo, make sure you ask for an icon view first floor room. We had room 0756 it is right in front of RCl. Not to far of a walk from the pool and food court. If I were you I would call and ask them to put this request in for you. Much less of a wait when you check in. Thank God we had a very good CM who helped us get this room. He did a lot of talking and then came back to me and said "your set you got a great room" and we did. Thank you Danny!!!! Hope you have a great time, I know you will.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I will certainly take heed of you advice.
Thank you
