Any advice on where or how to sell loose diamonds?

I have some loose diamonds that were removed from jewelry. Is there a best place or way to sell them so that I get the most money for them? Any advice is appreciated.

Not being mean, here, but you will have to be able to satisfy the purchaser that your loose stones are diamonds, not CZs. A jeweller will have the equipment to test each stone, so my bet would be with a local jeweller who creates jewellery in-house. Unfortunately, the sale price for individual diamonds, unless they are something out of the ordinary in quality and size, is not very high.

But they are from older jewelry so I think they are pre cz. I just know that a friend of my son had an engagement that fell through and he got stuck BIG time on the cost. I'll check out some jewelers. Thanks

How diamonds are cut has evolved. Typically older diamonds are not as brilliant in the light. I personally prefer old mine cut diamonds but I am far from the norm.

Loose diamonds under a half carat will likely bring you little unless you have many of matched shape.

My mother sold some gold last year and I popped all the stones before selling. I may make a mismatched piece later.

Depends on where you live. Some cities have a concentration of jewelers or pawn shops. I would go to at least three to see who would give you the best price. Also, what did you pop the stones out of? Did you already sell the metal they were set in?

I was not offered much on some diamonds that I had taken out of gold I sold. I shopped them around to several places and then made them into a couple of necklaces to give to my DD when I didnt get what I really felt was fair .

The one diamond is almost 1 full ct and is not perfect but pretty good quality and they offered me 175.00 : ( Needless to say it looks really pretty hanging on the chain :thumbsup2

You could try Craigslist. Meet the buyer at a jewelry store and have the stone authenticated.

I'm not sure what happened to their settings. I just know she said they were from old pieces. They are about a carat each.

If they are full carats you cal sell them but I'd probably keep them and have them mounted. Or save them if any of your kids get married and are broke. They could have an engagement ring for the cost if a basic setting probably $100-$150 in today's money.

You could always have them set for earrings or pendants too.

I once bought a mans ring at an estate sale. It had very large stones but I was not certain if they were real. I created a very large pendant and two sets of solitaires. Then sold the gold. The original owner had a size 17 ring do I was able to buy the mountings for the stones for less than the value of the rings gold. Of course it took me about three years to remember to actually mount the stones but that is another story.
