Any advice on choosing a Cat. 6 cabin?

I finally made a reservation (ok, actually it's on hold until I decide the question above)! Woohoooo! We're gonna be on the 12/10/05 7 day Eastern. This first-timer is beyond excited. Now we have to choose a cabin. Any general tips for getting a great cabin? (I know - they are all great, right?) :bounce: Anyone have a favorite cabin to recommend?

We will have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and expect them to spend *some* time at the lab/nursery. So we wondered if Deck 5 might be the best option. However, I know there aren't a lot of them available, might be sold out for all I know. Are the views from Deck 6 slightly better being higher? Forward, aft or midship preferences? Which has the least amount of motion? We were thinking midship might be a good option, somewhat near the stairwell to Deck 5 yet far enough from the elevator lobby that there wouldn't be any noise carryover. Does one side of the ship - port or starboard - have a better view than the other? We were thinking having a view of land as we left port would be really exciting for the kids - which side is that or do they both?

Anyway, I am super flexible right now because I am not fully informed but I don't want to make a mistake that will be difficult to change later, KWIM? (That has been the case with our WDW trip coming up and I want to plan this one a little better - we're gonna have a MAGICAL time regardless but still ...)

Thanks for any advice!

midship is helpful so that one flight down to the kids clubs
I don't think the view is any different based on the floor since there aren't any obstructions
Don't worry about the elevators, I am picky soundwise and was near the elevator - the design is such that it just isn;'t the problem like it can be with hotels, etc
You will have a great time

We stayed in 6056 and LOVED it!! I would highly recommend it...absolutely NO problem with noise and just one flight down to the lab.

6556 rocks! Many folks on this board have had it and we all loved it.

PERFECT location for kid's clubs; right in the middle of the ship so it's an equal walk everywhere and we felt no motion at all

GREAT room!

Both show - on the aft wall - a double line between it and the next cabin. Does this mean anything significant? Thanks again!

Also, is there a way to tell which are 4 person staterooms? I don't think the deck plans give any clues, is that right? Has that info been gathered by anyone?

6556 is def 4 people. From what I remember the room faces a wall and the next "section" of boat begins to your right as you exit the room (with rooms facing each other). Behind the wall in front of you is the stairwell.

It may have helped keep our room quieter, but I heard nothing from our neighbors on either trip.

The double lines just mean there are wires running through that section. It appears you still have the bump for the steamer trunk so no problems. We had 6088 and loved it.

We just returned from the Wonder and had 6554. It is an adjoining room. You could hear the kids next door every so often but it was not bad. Try getting a room on this side of the ship. At CC you get to look at it all day while your there!
Have fun!

The ship does not always dock the same direction at CC, so you may not get to see the beach side.

We had room 6550 & have booked it again for 2006. It was mid-ship, and one flight of steps & you were close to the kids clubs. It sleeps 4 people....

I'm so despirate to book another cruise I would probably sleep in the engine room!!!! We stayed in 6032 and it was very nice. But like I said, I would suffice the the engine room!!

LOL! I am afraid that is how I am going to be after this cruise. My DH - who is wonderful in most every other way - has a Scrooge-y side and this is a big splurge for us. Not sure we'll be doing it again anytime soon, though I can always hope he falls hard for the experience. :sunny:

Thanks everyone, I sent the deposit and requested a cabin in the 40s thru 70s. I will let you know what we get!

Careful, I would ammend your request to be a non-adjoiner!!!!
(you can figure this out by looking at the deck plans)

Whoops, you have a great point! The first set of deck plans I referred to didn't have the arrows showing adjoining rooms so I didnt even think about it. Located another set of plans that did show it and then amended the request.

Just stayed in 6056 and it was perfect! It was definately 4 (we had 4). We have already rebooked same cabin for next year and NaNa and PaPa will be in 6556. We felt like it was the perfect location for them to do as little walking as possible. We have only ever stayed midship and have only felt motion one night (could have been the cocktails).

Good luck,

We backed into Castaway while in 6556 so we had the view all day long.

And just for clarity, 6556 itself is not an adjoining room, 6554 and 6552 are adjoining

Well, it appears that all other Cat. 6 cruisers coveted that midship location as much as we did! Pretty much everything was booked. We ended up with 6040, a bit more forward than I would like. It doesn't look that far from the stairs, my main worry is movement. Maybe we'll try to switch at the payment deadlines next year?

Now onto other big decisions, like whether to do the REAS package (anyone sign up for that despite having kids in tow?) ... and, oh, I can think of tons other things.

Thanks agains for all the great advice!

How about 6598 guys? Any insight for a 1st timer prone to motion sickness?
