Any advice for a recent Kidney Transplant recipient?

Congrats on the new used part!

A few things from DH (who just passed his 7 year kidneyversary):

1. Make sure to wear your sunscreen, and if you can, wear long sleeved shirts and pants that are UV coverage. Hat too.

2. Remember no water fountains, drink fountains (bottles and cans only, and make sure to wipe them off first before you drink from them), or ice. (Ice at home, if you make it, is ok; ice machines can carry so much bacteria)

3. Foods to avoid (so ask your server): Starfruit (toxicity sits in kidneys); sour orange, Tamarind, tangerine, grapefruit and pomegrante (interaction with medication); not even the juice or a marinade are ok. No fresh fruits/veggies/herbs you don't wash yourself; ask for no garnish if it comes with a sprig of parsley. Meat needs to be cooked to 165; no more medium rare steaks, sorry. Also, no deli meats (unless reheated, so hot sammies only) or undercooked yolks!

4. Drink your water, and then drink more.

5. DH still wears a mask everywhere; with the immunosuppresscents, he feels its a necessity; even being triple shotted.

6. Don't overdo it. Remember to rest. You will feel like a million bucks, but at 4 months out from a major surgery, remember you are still healing!

Only thing I can think to add is just do a quick check-in with your medical team and ask them the same question: Is there anything I should know/do/not do.

Better safe than sorry! Wishing you the most Magical trip! 🙂
