I am a real chicken when it comes to any roller coaster that has any type of drop...ok, I can do Goofy without too much trouble, but will never ride Space Mtn. again...last time we were in WDW, BTMR was closed for refurb...so I was able to get out of riding it. Please tell me about BTMR, Rockin Roller Coaster, and EE---will the hills be too much. Also, how about Splash Mountain. My kids are older now and wanting to try these rides...if only their mom can get over be so chicken.

My husband is a big chicken as well..mostly because he gets motion sickness. But even he loved BTMR. Its a fast ride but I don't remember any jerking or it going too high..

My advice would be do it..you never know until you try it. My 7 year old wants to ride it this year.

As for the other 2..I have no idea I haven't been on either of them. My husband doesn't do upside down (RRC)

I think you are braver than I am . I won't even do Goofy's Barnstormer. Nope. Won't catch me on that or any of the others you mentioned. :sad2:

The great thing is, that opens me up for all the other rides while a whole stack of people are trying to get on the BTMRR, Rock & Roll whatever it is, EE and Splash Mountain.

It's Peter Pan, IASM, and Snow White for me. :teeth:

Since Disney is something that my dd 7 loves, when we go I suck it up and ride most rides becuase of her. TOT and RRC are the two coaster I just cant seem to take, I have not rode EE but we are planning to ride in Aug., but dd is nervouse about this ride. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

A bit of a daredevil myself, our kids have also become reasonably fearless (they don't do anything dumb and won't end up on a stupid human tricks video). We have urged them to try anything once (that doesn't hurt you now - like dangerous, or hurt your future - like drugs) before deciding that it is not for them. Keep an open mind (this applies to food as well!).

For adults, it seems a bit different. Fears often cannot be rationalized. A phobia is a phobia and overcoming it needs more help than dis-boards can provide. But for my mother in law, who just didn't like "it" - coasters, drops, flying, etc. - one thing which was helpful was the knowledge that it was not dangerous, the unpleasant part would only be seconds long, might turn out not to really be unpleasant at all (preception v. reality), and she would feel rewarded by being courageous and then proud of overcoming a feeling, a fear, which was in fact limiting her life, her experiences in life, even enjoyment in life (I think grandkids had A LOT to do with it too....).

I am also a ride chicken - can't do drops at all! In fact, Goofy's Barnstormer was almost a bit much for me! However - I did work up the courage to do BTMRR on our last trip and loved it! There are no drops - just fast curves, etc. So if it is drops you don't like, you should be fine on BTMRR. Now if I could just be brave enough to do Splash Mt.!!! :bitelip:

I am the biggest chicken, and my DD9, is the opposite (she got the gene from her dad/my-ex- he's not around, so it has not been by example - has got to be in the genes!!!) I have done BTMR - don't really care for it, but it's doable - did Splash Mountain once (and the Log Flume at Busch Garden recently) not too bad, and the Primevil Whirl at AK (NEVER AGAIN) - I will not even do Barnstormer DD goes on by herself! She's at the age where she can ride alone, so if I can't see her in the queue all the way to the ride, I go with her and take the chicken exit. She loves when we have company that she can ride with! I don't do well on swirly spinny things either.

BTMR and Splash are pretty tame. However, I would tell you not to even try RnRC. That was one of the most intense roller coasters I've ever been on, far more intense than Space Mt. Awesome for a coaster lover like me, but not good if you don't like them. Haven't been on EE yet.

Have fun! :)

I also do not like thrill rides. I rode Space Mountain once - and only once. You couldn't pay me to go on that one again. The same thing goes for Test Track. I'm too chicken to ride Goofy. I have ridden BTMRR a few times, but I am scared to death while on it. I don't like the feeling of turning and going down at the same time & that is what you mostly do on that ride. The last time I rode it I rode in the last car. It was a wild ride. If you ever ride it, don't sit in the back. However, I can stomach Splash Mountain.

There's nothing to BTMRR, its just fast. Splash Mountain isn't horrible. I wouldn't sugget RockinRollerCoaster, the start is not for chickens.

I used to be a ride chicken also, but I went to WDW with my 13 yr. old niece and realized that I had to gather my courage and get on some of the rides that I dreaded for her sake. Guess what? I realized that they were very thrilling, but not near-death experiences! All except for TOT, that WAS a near death experience, since I HATE the falling sensation. I do like speed though, and so Test Track and BTMRR were a blast.

I slowly desensitized myself and now I actually enjoy the thrill rides.
I would definitely recommend that you stay away from TOT, Rn'RC, EE and SM. I have observed that there is a very creative science to psychologically scaring you before you get on a thrill ride. Some more obvious than others. Just keep remembering, this is Disney, not a shady carnival and you can out wit the fear tactics.

One more bit of advise, if your family wants to ride the thrill rides, get in line with them and enjoy the wonderful theming of the queue and the pre-shows. When you get up to the loading area, tell them you aren't riding and they will show you the "chicken exit". Seriously, they all have one. As well as chickening out, people have to use the restroom or have to get to a dining reservation, etc. It's no big deal at all. Then you can wait for your riders in the giftshop.

I rode EE 2 weeks ago and the ride is fantastic, but it IS a big, major coaster. The theming and the queue are fab though, and well worth seeing.

Have Fun! :sunny:

if speed and loops dont scare you id try RnRc there are no drops just loops lol :)

But I am slowly getting over it! Yay me! On our trip last year I finally worked up the courage to try BTMRR and I LOVED it!! Mad because of what I missed all those other trips I wouldn't ride it! Rode it again last week with no qualms whatsoever, and was ready to take on Space Mountain - but the wait was 90 minutes and no FP's left. Sorry, but I'm not waiting 90 minutes to ride anything. I still can't bring myself to do Splash - just seeing that big drop gets me. But get this: I RODE RNR!!!! Wow - it is INTENSE! The launch is definitely the worst part. But it really wasn't that bad and I even rode it a second time! (Now every time I hear "Dude Looks Like a Lady" or "Sweet Emotion" I have a flashback! :scared1: ) So now I'm thinking, if I can do that, I can do ANYTHING! Bring on EE! Got to AK the next day, took one look at EE, and chickened out. :guilty: I think it's the big drops that get me, too. DH rode EE and said it was overrated (don't flame, please!) - he said it's a lot like BTMRR but there is the one drop (and the backwards in the dark part, which I think I could handle). I'm going to try to psyche up for it and try it next time, just so I can say I did it. But hey - if Chicken Me can do those rides, ANYONE can - well, maybe not RNR, but definitely BTMRR! It's a blast! Try it!

I dont do rollercoasters LOL! I'm a chicken too. I have done Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain, but I get really nervous even on them. My husband is the daredevil. My daughter is only 23 months right now, but when she's old enough to do rollercoasters, and isnt afraid, my DH will be the one going on them with her. Just wait till your DD wants to do Everest....my husband said it was great!!!!

I used to be a chicken... ok I still am for certain things.. but the best way to get over the fear of a ride is to ride it with another chicken! Seriously. Find someone just as chicken as you are. I guess it's a support group type of thing.

I can't give any advice for EE because I haven't been on it yet.
To be honest, Goofy's Barnstormer is actually rather fast! It's short, but fast. If you can do that one, then you can do Big Thunder. I think BTMRR is one of the least instense coasters. In a weird way, it's almost relaxing. You don't get that feeling in the pit of your stomach like you do in most coasters - like you actually get in Goofy's Barnstormer. Most people who don't like coasters, don't enjoy that feeling in the pit of your stomach. I've read something, somewhere where people who don't enojy coasters actually get an overdose of adrenaline; more so than most other people therefore the feeling isn't enjoyable. The only thing to do is either decide to never ride it ot suck it up and give it a try. The fear of the unknown makes it even more scary. But BTMRR really isn't scary. Try it. You might really like it. It's not intense at all. If you do ride it, it can help to look at all of the scenary. There's so many thing to look at on that ride it will help keep your mind off it. Who knows?

If you didn't like Space Mountain, I'm afraid you probably won't like RRC. It's not as dark as Space Mountain, but pretty dark still. Did you know that Space Mountain is really a rather slow caoster? It's top speed is only 28 mph! The intenstity comes from the darkness and anticipation. For RRC, the scariest part is the "blast off" where you go from zero to sixty MPH in two or three seconds. After that, it's really a fun ride.

It sounds like you want to like them but haven't been able to overcome your fears. It's a good start. Try BTMRR. Then try Space Mountain again. You already know what's going to happen so I bet it won't be as bad as the first time around.

Do you ever go during an off-season? If so, make it a point to start with Goofy, move to BTMRR, then Space Mountain. During the off-season, the crowds won't be too bad and you will be able to hit them one right after the other. I've found that once I do one, I'm ready to move on to the next one. Off-season crowds will allow you to do that.

But don't stress to much about them. Life's too short. Don't ride them if you really don't want to ride them. There are so many cool things to do at WDW without thrills that there is no need to worry about it. Relax and have fun.

Cheers!

I am a huge chicken and don't like my stomach dropping, but WDW rides just don't have that affect on me. They are just scary enough, but never cause me to get that "i'm going to hurl" feeling.

I also recommend screaming the entire time down hills. It takes that "feeling" our of your tummy.

I highly recommend any and all of WDW rollercoasters! They are the best. Also they are mostly dark and that helps me somehow too!

P.S. Bravo for you all looking to overcome! And I agree with the comment above...in the end, fi it's not for you, don't push it, life is too short

In fact, so is dh, we are the perfect people to take a 3 year old to WDW, since we probably don´t like the rides that they can´t do!

I can do Goofy´s Barnstormer and BTMMR, since there aren´t any big drops.

This coming from someone who hasn´t done POC in a looong time, because is start to hyperventilate the moment that I see the skull that is at the entrance of the flume, and can´t breathe while the boat is going down, and now that I am a mom, I can´t afford to go into respiratory or cardiac arrest just because of a Disney ride, lol.

So I say, if you don´t enjoy it, don´t do it. There are many many things to do that you will enjoy.

Trust me I am the BIGGEST chicken there. On splash Mt. I waited forever in line, when i finaly got in the log I started thinking about the drop and I jumped out before the ride started. I love BTMR, not scary at all. I was once lucky enough to be on it durning the fireworks....AMAZING!!!! pixiedust:Best Disney memory ever.

Honestly, I find Space Mountain to be more frightening than the Rock n' Roller Coaster. Space is very, very jerky, and your restraint is a simple lap bar, plus, there are several spots on that ride where you get "airtime" (the flying-out-of-your-seat feeling.) RnRC, by comparison, is smoother, not as dark, and you're securely locked into your seat by an over-the-shoulder restraint. IT also doesn't really have any "drops", as others have said.

MY GF Nikkie was, three years ago, a HUGE ride chicken. She now rides anything and everything (except for Mission: Space which made her dizzy) and RnRC is among her favorites. It's my favorite ride at WDW.

Yes, it goes upside down, but the IDEA of going upside down is a lot worse than actually doing it. Really, compared to, say Hulk over at Islands of Adventure, RnRC is tame. I think it's a good intoduction to the "modern" steel coaster if you haven't ridden one before.

I agree! This happened to us, too... two years ago during an E-ride night. Boy, do I miss those.
