just got back from wdw and was so excited to join dvc. now reading the member guidelines and the posts here, i'm getting nrevous that maybe this isn't a good idea. we'd be buying into SSR, but we really want to try BWV and BCV and WLV, and may really prefer to stay at those places most of the time due to location. is it really difficult to book somewhere other than your home resort? i know it's worse on holidays, but what about most of the year? do you fee restricted by all of the booking/banking/cancellation guidelines? thanks!! i hope you have good things to tell me!

Any responses you get to this question are purely speculation. Some people have had success at given times of the year, while others have found no availability at the same time.

Just remember that the number of rooms at BCV, VWL and BWV will not change (barring expansion), but DVC is constantly adding new members. It's only going to get more difficult to book at a non-home resort in the future.

IMO, it's preferrable to a timeshare that pigeonholes you into the same week every year. As long as you plan ahead there is no reason to worry about losing points.

It's hard to predict what it will be like to book at a variety of resorts in the future. But if you set your heart on one particular resort, even if it's sold out, don't be afraid to call the sales number on the DVC website and discuss how you feel. If you really want to stay most of the time at VWL, at BCV, or one of the other sold out resorts, tell that to the sales representative. We waitlisted for BCV only a few weeks ago and bought it very quickly through Disney. And, of course, you can also buy through the resale boards for a bit less money and only a little more hassle. In the end, you probably should hold out for what you like; your money is too valuable to spend on a second choice.

If you truely think you will be staying at those resorts most of the time, I would start looking at a resale for one of them. BCV and VWL are considerably smaller than the others, so they could be the most difficult to get into later on.

There are certainly going to be times of the year when you have trouble booking other DVC properties. The previous poster has a good idea, determine where you want to be most often and consider buying a resale. At the top of this page the Timeshare Store has some listings for you to sample. You can also call DVC and be put on a wait list.

But by all means join DVC. I have to tell you it is the best thing I have ever done for myself and family.

I don't think you will ever regret it. ::yes:: :wave2:
