Anxiety about ordering on the DDP

We leave for the MK in 26 days and I'm getting an ulcer over the DDP!

I know I shouldn't be but I am.
I keep having dreams that I go up to order with my family and we pick the wrong stuff and end up with a huge bill at the end of a meal. My DH then blows a gasket and yells at me *in my dream* because he thought it was already paid for.
So when you're ordering do you clarify with the waiter/waitress/counter service CM that the item you want is on the DDP? I guess its mostly with the counter meals that there might be a confusion as to what counts as a snack, what is a meal, and what isn't?

Always ask for help if you need it. When we were using a TS, we just let the waiter know and they made sure we understood. CS, I just double checked with the CM when making my order.

it's a lot easier than you would think...and whenever you're in doubt, just ask...the counter people/servers are all very good at pointing out exactly what you can have. It's quite a variety, you'll enjoy it!

It's even easier than it sounds, at TS at least. Your server will ask you if you're on the dining plan when (s)he first comes by, and will ask to look at your KTTW card when you say yes. (S)he will then proceed to explain to you exactly what you can expect to get for your plan credit; any questions you have can be easily answered then, or later, if you need to look at the menus first.

This routine should take the worry out of it for you, although you might wind up being sick of it by the end of your stay. ;)

At counter service, you can just ask, but I recall that some of the places, at least, have "cheat sheets" for dining plan guests that show the options available to you.

For snacks, many places have menu boards with logos indicating snack-eligible items. If in doubt, just ask.

There are also very, very few exclusions within the plan parameters (if you order the courses you are entitled to on the plan). Remember on the regular plan that appetizers are not included, and separate side items are not included with a meal at either TS or CS on any plan (although some might be eligible as snacks at CS). Your server should be able to explain the plan to you at any particular restaurant, or if you are contemplating ordering an item you can ask if the plan will cover it before you order it, if you are not sure.

Also re: CS -
you can often substitute with no problem. For example, we're not big dessert eaters, so they would let us get an carrot sticks or apple slices in place of the brownie, pie, etc.
I've never tried it at TS, but CMs are really accommodating in our experience. Anything to make it more "magical!"

Awwww...don't be worried (yeah, I know, easy for me to say), the CMs are very good at explaining the dining plan and it really is easy once you get the hang of it. Enjoy your trip and your dining. :)

Don't worry, as everyone said it is easier once you are there and "see" it.

I was this way the first time we used it. So afraid that I would have to pay because I ordered the wrong thing. lol
But it was so easy, and the PPs are right, the CMs really do help you out.

Relax, it will be ok. ;)

You'll be fine. You get an entree, drink, dessert for 1 cs credit, if say you wanted an extra side of fries, dessert you could use a snack credit for that. The snack items are clearly marked with ddp symbol. When in doubt ask before you order.

sorry to hear it's worrying you but really it's a great easy thing to use!

The waitresses do explain it to you, and it's funny b/c they say have you had the dining plan before, and i say yes but then they still tell me what it entitles me. lol.

Tips for Using your Quick Service:
If you are on the regular dining plan and you go to a quick service place, b/c you get one per day, you get the combo meal. That should come with an entree, dessert, and drink. Flame Tree at Animal Kingdom and Cosmic Rays in MK are our favorites and a great value too. If you use a QS for breakfast, like i did at POP Century, i ordered any value meal which they had pictures on the menu above the food station. Then i went and chose a drink. When i was at the register I said "I would like to use my QS credit," which i always state by the way. She said I also get a pastry, so back over to the food i went and stood in line waiting to select a danish. Now this is helpful b/c prior to this i just thought it was a combo and drink at breakfast, which then makes a better deal to use it for lunch, but with the 'dessert' danish it made a good value.

Snack tips:
When getting a snack, look for the purple square with the white symbols in it, it's small and by the product name on their menus. When i go to pay I always say Hi, i would like to use my snack credit for this. Make sure you say this b/c I got a smoothie at the Mainstreet bakery and i said snack credit but she said "no it's not a snack credit" and I said yes, the icon is next to it up on the menu, see? She couldnt argue with me b/c it was in sight of the register!! So good thing i knew what the purple icon meant!
Another time I got a danish in AK at a stand. I said "i'd like to use a snack credit for this," and good thing i looked at the reciept a few feet away after biting into the delicious cheese danish because it was charged to my key to the world card!!! So i walked back over and said it was supposed to be a snack credit. They quickly fixed it and then didnt charge me a snack credit so i ended up getting it for free. Now some of the best snacks dont have the icon on the menu but if you ask if it's a snack credit on the dining plan you may be pleasantly surprised, as is for the ice cream cookie sandwhich at Animal Kingdom over by Dinosaur, its a walk up window. mmmmmmmmm, a must do. Also, the funnel cake over by the castle around liberty square area.

Tips for Table Service:
With table service places, buffets are the easiest. Other than that, you can order any entree, and appetizer for one if you are on deluxe dining plan, and any dessert.. unless it says 'for two' then you would have to both use your dessert allotment on it, like the brownie sundae at Yak n Yeti. I wish they could just make a smaller portion, but whatever. As for drinks, you can ask what drinks are included. Sometimes they will say soda, tea, etc. and then i will ask are milkshakes? and then they say yes, but didnt originally state that. So most places have them included on both plans. Try the peanut butter and jelly shake at DHS it's amazing!! sounds wierd but omg it's great. Also, smoothies are on the plan at the places i've tried to get them at, like Kona Cafe, WCC, and LeCellier. The only extra cost is for tipping. It's not included, although it was a few years ago when i first used the plan and that was an excellent value, plus you got an appetizer too, and that was the regular plan.

One thing that i wondered the first time i got the plan was how to keep track of how many meals, snacks, etc. you have left, but just so you know, after you buy something it will say how many remaining at the end of your reciept.

Hope that helps you! enjoy your vacation!

Don't let it bother you anymore. We went thru the same anxiety last year and decided to give it a try. We even went as far as analyzing what we thought we'd normally eat and compared costs to the DDP.

We really liked the DDP because we didn't have to worry about what we ate and it actually allowed us to try things from various menus we would normally have stayed away from due to costs and not being familiar with the food items.

We were pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to use the DDP. If we ever had any problems or didn't understand, the cast members were always willing to help. In fact most of the TS staff would ask.

We actually found that the amount of food we ate was more than we would have if we didn't do the dining plan, but spent about the same that we would have it we didn't do the DDP.

I would recommend giving it a try and put yourself in the hands of the cast members. They are a great bunch of people.

Eat and be happy!

Question... I am on the dining plan. When I go to QS and (for example) there is fries listed with the sandwich. Can I get that or am I not able to since I am using a CS credit?

Question... I am on the dining plan. When I go to QS and (for example) there is fries listed with the sandwich. Can I get that or am I not able to since I am using a CS credit?

The easiest way to answer this question is when you go to CS/QS, try to order a combo meal, which will come with a side, like fries. For example, at Columbia Harbor House at MK:

Chicken Breast Nuggets and Fish - Served with French Fries or Apple Slices $8.19

Fried Fish Basket - Served with choice of either French Fries or Apple Slices $7.09

Fried Shrimp Basket - Served with Coleslaw and French Fries $9.69

8 Chicken Breast Nuggets - Served with French Fries or Apple Slices $7.69

Any of these items listed count for your CS credit. You also get a drink and a dessert. So yes, you can usually get fries with your meal, as long as it's listed as a combo. I hope this made sense and helped! :goodvibes

For CS you pay BEFORE you eat, so any confusion will be sorted out. Plus, you just tell the cashier to use a cs credit for each meal when you hand them your kttw card. Check your receipt to verify you were charged correctly.
I never get snacks @ counter service w/ my meal, I always get a combo meal and that's lots of food plus you get the desert.
I use my snack credit for a fruit bowl for breakfast and just tell the cashier I'm using my snack credit.
As others have said, for TS, the waiters will ask you if you are on the DP and explain it all to you. When we've ordered appetizers or soups/salads they even warn us that they aren't on the plan and we'll need to pay extra for them (which we know.) I personally carry cash for TS tips/off plan food, as I don't like to charge to the room.
In one day, you'll totally have the hang of it - so save your stress for harder things, like worrying over whether you'll get good fast pass times for your favorite rides.

Each receipt shows how many TS CS and snacks left. If you ask at your resort deak they can also give you a print out.

Please don't stress it is really easy to get used to. We stayed 14 nights on free DDP and a couple of days in I was helping newbies out around me!

'Mistakes' I saw people making

Thinking all the kttw cards needed to be handed over to pay eg trying to give 4 cards to the CS cashier as there were 4 in the party.

Thinking you all had to order cs meals at the same time - if you only want to order 3 or 4 between you do it. Only limit is you can only order the number of meals to match the people in your party at one time.

Just ask the waiter at TS and cm at CS what is included. eg when they want a drink order at TS ask if any of the smoothies or milkshakes are incuded they often are.

If your DH isnt a DISer you may find he doesn't believe what you can get at first

On check in at AS movies we ate at the foodcourt. I'd read here you could get a 16 inch pepperoni pizza for 2 adult CS. I asked - sure you can. We also got 2 energy drinks $4 each for DH to drink later and used our mugs. Followed by 2 large ice cream sundaes. DH kept saying how many credits was this - I told him 2 and he was like how many credits do we get...I could see the penny dropping...he had been worried he would be hungry!

First TS meal at Raglan road - check over $100 - lovely meal steak and gers bread pudding. All that evening he kept saying I can't believe that was included, he still mentions that meal now.
