So what kind of antics can I expect or prepare for at 50's Prime Time Cafe?

I've heard a few things like "clean your plate" but not sure what that means. I've also heard it's noisy, which is not a problem but I'm assuming b/c there is some action going on. Am I right? Do tell. :goodvibes

Here's what to expect:

*You will be called "children" through your meal, as if your waitress is your nagging mom (though they are VERY sweet).

*You will be told to take your elbows off of the table if you have them up there.

*If you drink alot before your meal, you will be told something like "you need to stop drinking so much or you will fill up and not eat your dinner"

*You will be told to "clean" your plate, which simply means to eat everything on it. If you don't, the waitress may jokingly nag you (with a smile), and if you "clean" it, she'll applaud you publicly among your fellow diners and close tables.

It's only loud if you get parents who dont control their children but when "that" table left, it was actually very quiet.

It's a nice atmosphere, very manner oriented. Very comfortable, good food and everyone seems to be so nice.

You may luck out and get "Mom" serving your meal, or you could wind up with cousin "Hector." It's the luck of the draw. If you want interaction, let the host/hostess know when you check in -- they'll try to place you with the servers who they know are a bit more "fun." You can also be told things like "No dessert if you don't eat your green beans," etc. You know -- the typical "Mom" stuff. Once when we were there a man at a table by us was told to go stand in the corner for not using his napkin, or some other "manners-type" infraction. It was funny and his kids certainly got a kick out of it!

When I was there everyone was given paper and crayons and given quizzes - Disney films set in England, presidents with one syllable surnames, and so on. It was a lot of fun, with different tables trying to get answers off eachother! :)

"Aunt Jan" kept us on our toes at Thanksgiving! She asked my mother (who asked for a 3rd cup of coffee) if she had her Depends on that day! My nephew had to stand in the corner because he didn't ask to be excused to go to the restroom and my DD's boyfriend hid his green beans from her (the illusion of a clean plate) and she brought him a green bean "sundae" complete with whipped cream and a cherry on top and sat beside him and proceeded to feed him a green bean!! Its all in good fun and we have a blast there!!!

:thumbsup2 Thanks! Sounds so fun and perfect for our group!!! We want lots of interaction!

you might even be told to set your own table.

We had a group of six from age 5 to 65 and "Uncle Tim" kept us laughing all night.

He asked if we washed our hands then caught us in a lie when we didn't know the color of the soap (blue by the way!) and then sent us to the bathroom to wash up.

Put my SIL in the corner for the 3 time with her elbows on the table.

we all had names like Sparky, Trouble Maker, High Maintenance, Miss Elbows on the table (see above), Cutie Pie, and Spanky.

The hostess walked by and took my son's just completed sundae and said "Thanks, I haven't eaten yet!" The look on his face was priceless. She did return it and he guarded it after that.

We saw him doing fork airplanes for people who had not cleaned their plates.

It is a really fun place, highly recommend it.

Yeah.if you don't like veggies (like me) BE SURE to order your entree without them! I have been the victim of the veggie airplane - loudly done!

And - if you aren't hungry, don't over order. When I didn't finish my lunch a few trips back, I had to stand up on the chair and sing "I'm a little teapot" in front of the entire restaurant.

And my darling husband video taped it for the enjoyment of our entire family...forever. Of course, I had to sing it twice because my first performance wasn't good enough.

It's amazing what you'll do in WDW.

ORDER CAREFULLY.....

...and if you really misbehave, you will have to stand up an recite "I'm a little Tea Cup". :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Prime Time is great!

Once when we were there, it was a girl's birthday a few tables away. we all sang for her and she passed out cake to all the tables. It was very good cake!

One "cousin" had the kids standing up telling jokes .. the cornier the better!

Is "cousin hector" the extremely laid back, aka semi conscious waiter who doesn't get into the role playing that much? Our "cousin" last time was , well boring :sad2: Just wondering if that's who they mean.

We had Uncle Tim once - he is our absolute favorite! We even sent him a picture of our group for his photo album. A year and a half later we were there again, with a not-so-fun waitress this time, and stopped Uncle Tim to see if he actually put us in his album. Sure enough, we were on the last page! We have gone there 5 different times with 5 different waiters/waitresses, and think he is the best!

I would go with no expectations and you may be surprised....we have yet to have a badgering waiter/ress

When we went on the "girls only" trip, we had someone in our party who was very "picky" & didn't finish her meal. Well, our "Uncle" seriously picked on her, pulled her from the table as she argued a little with him (jokingly of course) & made her sit in the corner while him & other waiters played Kazoo's at her.
the more interactive you make it, the better. To me, it was the best experience out of our trip, I never laughed so hard!!

expect: "elbows off the table", "napkin in your lap", "don't drink so much or you'll fill up", "if you don't clean your plate, you won't get any dessert".

keep in the mindframe of 1950's MOM & how things were done. and the more "rukus" you cause, the more interactive & fun it will be. Especially if you don't tell someone in your party (like we did) what to expect. :rotfl2:

Ya that's my plan. Not tell the people we're going with so it'll be great and the kids will think it's hilarious! It's on our last night so just the something we're looking for to top off our trip.

I really enjoyed my dinner here last summer. Cousin Ernie said he could see my arms on the table and that he could see them a mile away! Huge meals
and great atmosphere. :goodvibes

We went for our anniversary with another couple two years ago. There was another family near us and their little boy, about 8 or 9, wouldn't eat his vegetables. Our "mom" had my friend go over and feed him with the "airplane" until he ate half of them. It was hilarious!! That poor boy had no idea what to do except eat the veggies from a strange lady :rotfl2: :rotfl:
