I have read a lot about this and actually asked the doc too :rotfl2:
Most people have sore throat afterwards due to retraction of the trachea during procedure. I get that. HOW LONG?

Most people have some upper back/shoulder muscle soreness too (positioning is most likely the culprit). HOW LONG?

I have appt on tues for post op so will be able to ask again then.
Just wondered what others have been thru?

Had the same surgery last October the pain in my shoulders lasted about a week the worst being right after surgery. My throat was a different issue that went on for about 6 months not that it hurt but I felt like things were not in the right place and eating was hard for a good month make sure you have soft food to eat applesauce, yougart, soup atart small follower dr. orders and all will be well this is the best I have felt in a long time no more pain.:cool1:

Good to know. THanks. I know it is "normal" but you really start to doubt it, you know?
I am glad you are in no more pain. That's what I am praying for.

I had mine done on December 19. I was eating normally 3 days post op and managed 2 family Christmas parties with very little pain. I actually went back to work 2 days early.

Obviously nobody heals at the same rate and it is going to be a little different for everyone.

Good luck!! It's the best thing I ever did.

Fabulous.
Oh, I am eating normally (not much gets between me and food! :rotfl2:), just a bit surprised at the throat discomfort.
THe shoulder pain bugs me too. I understand that was from positioning during procedure, but thought it would be better by now too :rolleyes2 I know I am impatient thought.

I have 2 weeks off work. Doc said that should be enough. I am still wearing the collar (soft). How long did you have to wear yours?

Had my surgery April 2013. Throat was sore for about one month and voice raspy for about six months. Had to really chew food or felt like I was choking at times. Only wrote collar home from hospital. Not at all after that.

That's the way I feel. ALmost like I am choking. It is hard to cough and sneeze as well.
I hate the collar ;) Will be glad to be rid of it.
