I agree. The new rooms are fantastic! From my in-laws 6th floor DTD view room we could see the fireworks and a side view of WOC when the higher fountains were on. No projections, but it was still pretty watching the color spouting to the music.

Everyone's opinions are so different! Haha. When we were there last September we walked over to DLH to check out the jungle cruise boats, and they were closed do to the construction. I think that the hotel inside was absolutely beautiful and I loved the feeling of being there. I think that'd be the hotel for me, unless I had a GCH premium view. I just can't wait.. I need to go there now!

Those boats are coming back... right? And the waterfall and the koi pond? Fortunately I did go over there last year sometime to check out the areas, but the boats weren't up and running that day. So pretty!

No, along with all the other room upgrades (see the video I posted above to see the new rooms)--they are remodeling the entire pools area. They are making the Disneyland pool have a monorail theme with a big slide and retro styling:http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/05/disneyland-hotel-makeover/

They have removed the waterfalls and fish ponds and boats in order to make more room for the remodel. I think in the long run it will be a better concept and make more sense for true disney theme.

well, that's really cool! I am excited to see what becomes of the parks and hotels in the next few years. I wish I was working there and contributing ideas! Being such a frequent visitor I have come up with tons of great ideas for all aspects of the parks. thanks for the links!

If you go to google earth and do the measurements, Hojo, Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier are all almost exactly the same distance. Disneyland Hotel is closer to the monorail, but the Pier is closer to the C.A. entrance. The Grand, measuring all the way from the Villas (furthest rooms) is still only about 1/2 - 2/3 the distance to the gates and much shorter if going into California Adventure. As far as hotels go we LOVE the Grand, which is why we bought into the Villas, but before that we would choose the Pier to Disneyland everytime, but I also think that your childrens age and your likes and dislikes plays a big part of any decision. If the price is right I think the Grand is worth a try, otherwise stick to the other two, they are still great hotels and staying on site just can't be beat.

Ok, now this is where I get jealous of all of you travelers to DLR. Having grown up about 6 miles from DL, and now living about an hour's drive away, I've only stayed on property once. It was for a friend's bachelorette party WAYYY back before the DTD remodel happened. The PP hotel was still the Pan Pacific, before Disney took it over. (Yikes, that's a long time ago! )

I guess I should start being creative and come up with some justifications for why I *need* to stay on property, at least one night (in each hotel). lol I can talk myself into anything. Really, I can!

I know what you mean! One reason I am glad we live in the Bay Area rather than L.A. is that we get to stay at the Disneyland Hotel! And I remember when Paradise Pier was Pan Pacific too. I had more of an Asian look to it--to be more welcoming to visitors from Asian countries who vacationed at Disneyland.

You could still plan a trip for yourself and spend a few nights at one of the hotels. I know Sherry (moderator for this board) is a local but she has done it!

I have never stayed in any of the 3 Disneyland Hotels, although I would love to do it once someday. It's just that I can't swallow the amount that these hotels cost. I could stay 3 nights for more than $1000 or I can stay 3 nights across the street somewhere for $300 and the other $700 could pay for 2 more 3 night trips to DL!! I'm all about quantity vs. quality when I come to Disney- the more trips the better!!

But one day I'd like to get over the cost and stay at the Grand or the DLH just to see what it's like.

A couple days between Christmas and New Years, and only because GCH was booked. With all the construction, The only thing DLH has on the HOJO is that the walk through DTD is better than the walk up Harbor! Well see once the pool reopens!

That is exactly what my family's view is. I'd love to do it, but every time I price it out we end up back at the CCI.

I feel the same way. It is hard to get over the cost but the last few trips I went on I walked around each of the hotels and I just loved the feeling. And was totally jealous of everyone there because I assumed they all had rooms. We'll see which hotel seems the best when I go on my 5 night/6 day trip in September! I'm planning on going all out this time. Either that or go to WDW for the first time but I want to save that for our honeymoon. UGH decisions decisions.

I live in San Diego and always spend the night. You don't need a reason, just do it. It is part of a fun week-end for us.

I love the renovation at DLH. I've stayed in HoJo's and DLH and the two can't compare. I loved the new DLH!
