Sounds to me that these "tree removers" might have been more the sort who just drive around looking for work, and not a licensed company. I don't imagine a licensed company would be stupid enough to follow the neighbors instructions about working on private property they did not have any business being on.
This was my thought as well. I can't see a company specializing in tree removal being so negligent as to allow a tree to damage adjacent property. That just opens them up to a lawsuit.
I would start with the company. You can calmly ask their intentions for the removal of the tree from your property as well as how they plan on cleaning up the subsequent mess. Take pictures. Document who you spoke to, company name, phone number, etc. Begin with the company and then move on to the neighbors if, and only if, it becomes necessary. No need to raise your blood pressure if the company is already prepared to clean up your yard. (Well, any more than it is already raised just with their idiocy by allowing the tree to fall into your yard.)
Good luck.
