Another WiFi Question

I've never purchased an internet package or even used the free one you get on day 1. I'm planning on using, at least, the free one on our cruise next week. I understand that I'll need to log off when I'm not using it. But--will the basic free one for the app kick in automatically when not logged in? I want to make sure I can still use the app for free and only use the internet to check in at home a few times during the week. TIA!

As long as your device is connected to the ship's WiFi, you can use the app without using up your data. What you will need to log out of is the account you create in order to purchase the data package. As long as you are logged out of that account, your data can't be used accidentally.
 
I just back from the Fantasy where they gave us free 50MB on day 1. You log into your wifi account to use it, and logout when you're done to make sure you don't accidentally use it.
 
If you take your phone to the connect at sea desk the first day they will configure it for you so that you don't use all your MB too quick. If your background app refresh or automatic updates are turned on every time you log in it sucks your data dry.
