Day 4--Wednesday October 12, 2005

I got up early on Wednesday morning to get ready for breakfast. I had another voucher that I wanted to use. I had originally planned on going to Granville’s for breakfast with the voucher, but after the lousy service there Tuesday night, I decided to go back to Storyteller’s instead.

So, I turn on the water to take a shower, and there is no hot water! There was only lukewarm water--not warm enough to take a comfortable shower. Tuesday afternoon when I was back at my room, there had been several men working on the pipes in the wall across from my room. I guess they didn’t fix it!

After taking a quick cold shower, I pick up the phone and call the front desk to report the problem. When I told the cast member about the problem, she snapped, “We’re fixing it” and hung up on me! I was completely shocked when she hung up! I wasn’t being mean when I complained, I wasn’t yelling. I was just letting them know about a problem. There was no, “Sorry for your inconvenience.” Just a short answer and a hang up. Yet again, I had encountered another rude cast member at the Disneyland Hotel!

The day was not starting off so well. I was a bit upset about the continued rudeness of the cast members at the Disneyland Hotel as I made my way over to Storytellers. I was seated right away, and again enjoyed the food at this buffet. Once again, I had excellent character interaction.

After breakfast, I made my way into Disneyland. I went to the rope at the end of Main Street to wait until the park opened so that I could head immediately to the Virtual Magic Kingdom booth to book a tour for that afternoon.

But I still couldn’t shake off the yucky feeling I was feeling as a result of the rudeness of the cast members at the Disneyland Hotel. I took out my cell phone and call the contact at Disney Travel Co. that a friend from Dreams Unlimited had put me in touch with on Monday. As I told her about the problems I had encounter since I had last spoke to someone at Disney Travel Co. just 36 hours ago, I began to cry. I just couldn’t believe that I had spent all this money to stay at the Disneyland Hotel to go through all of these problems! I could have saved myself hundreds of dollars staying at a Good Neighbor hotel, but I chose to stay at the Disneyland Hotel because of the nostalgia of the hotel, and Disney’s reputation for great customer service.

And here I was standing on Main Street, a stone’s throw from Sleeping Beauty’s castle in tears. Somehow I don’t think that guests crying on Main Street because of the way they are being treated by cast members was a part of Walt’s Dream.

When the rope dropped, I started to make my way to the VMK booth. I have to say that I just don’t get why people have to run so that they can be first in line on an attraction. Does it really matter that much if you are on the first space mountain car or then 10th space mountain car? People just pushed their way through. It’s just ridiculous in my eyes.

After signing up for a tour, I took a ride on Space Mountain and Buzz. But I just wasn’t having fun. I was still feeling down over the service I was receiving at the Disneyland Hotel. I decided to walk back to the Disneyland Hotel to speak with a manager. I was in tears as I told the manager about all the problems I was having. He listened, and he was sympathetic. He offered to take care of my dinner that night, but I declined, as I had no desire to eat at a restaurant at the Disneyland Hotel after encountering rude cast members at two of them. He said he wished he could give me some of my money back on my room, but couldn’t because I had booked a package through Disney Travel Co. To be honest, by that point, I was so upset, I didn’t even know what they could do to make me feel better about all that I had gone through.

I told him that I would be moving to the Grand Californian the next day, and that I couldn’t’ wait to get out of the Disneyland Hotel. I told him that I had never had such horrible service at a hotel, and explained that I wasn’t making unreasonable demands--all of the problems were the result of cast members not doing their jobs properly. I told him that if it were one or two of these things, I would have just shrugged them off and move on. But the problem was continuous. I told him that I had originally planned to have the Disneyland Hotel move my bags to the Grand Californian, but after the poor service I didn’t have confidence in them to take care of the to me. He told me that they should be able to do that, but I still didn’t have the confidence in that. He took down the information for my stay at the Grand Californian and said he would make sure that my stay there went more smoothly than my stay at the Disneyland Hotel.

I then headed over to California Adventure to meet up with Califgirl. I had a no strings attached pass for Soarin’, so I grabbed a fast pass for Calfigirl so that both of us ride it later. We went on the ferris wheel, the Golden Zypher, and grabbed fast passes for the Tower of Terror before lunch.

After a ride on Soarin’, we headed to Taste Pilots for lunch. We both got the Blue Beyond Burger (or something like that). My burger and fries were very yummy. Even though I was fully, I couldn’t help but eat every last bite. Yum.

After lunch, we headed over to Disneyland for our VMK tour. We wound up taking the Omnibus up Main Street since we had a bit of time to kill. We grabbed Fast Passes for Space Mountain, and headed over to the VMK booth to wait for our tour. Another DISer (Fostermomto4 or something like that) and her daughter were joining us on the tour.

The VMK tour was a lot of fun. Our tour guide Albert was good (although not the greatest Disney tour guide I’ve ever had). We went on the Jungle Cruise, Thunder Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean as part of the quest. We also took the train back to Tomorrowland. We all got some neat virtual prizes to use when playing VMK.

After the tour, Califgirl and I grabbed fast passes for Autopia. We then headed back over to California Adventure to use the fast passes we had grabbed earlier in the evening. We also grabbed a snack at the bakery and ice cream shops in that little train inside the park (I can’t recall the name). I got an ice cream sundae, and Califgirl got a chocolate croissant.

We then went back to Disneyland to use our fast passes for Autopia and Space Mountain. We rode a few more rides that evening, and left the park shortly before closing. I sure had a fun day with Califgirl--it’s always nice to hang out with DISers.

I decided to head to Tortilla Jo’s for dinner. I love tortilla soup, so I decided to start off with a cup of soup. I wasn’t that impressed by the soup--it was a bit bland. I like my tortilla soup to have a bit of a kick. I also got a taco plate with a steak taco and a chicken taco. I had to order rice separately. The tacos were OK, but nothing spectacular. The rice was very good.

I then headed back to the Disneyland Hotel to pack up for my move to the Grand Californian the next morning. When I got back to my room, there was a message from Guest Services offering assistance with my luggage, or anything else I would need to make the transition between hotels. I called her back and left her a message thanking her for the offer, but explaining that I didn’t trust the Disneyland Hotel to move my luggage and would take care of it myself.

I dropped into bed before 11:00, exhausted from another busy and emotional day.

Wow!! I can't believe how much trouble you had. But I have to say, after reading about DL and DCA, I think I'm going to start planning a trip for summer 2007!! I think I'll skip the DL Hotel. I can't wait to hear about the Grand Californian.

Hurry up and get to day 5 so I can hear about the hotel :teeth: !!!

I'm glad you spoke with the manager about how bad things are at the Disneyland Hotel. We can only hope that the manager takes some action to correct these problems but it's not going to be easy to fix -- the rudeness and lack of customer service seems to be pervasive. This isn't just one rude CM, it seems to be part of the culture there, kind of an "AntiDisney-land Hotel" mentality.

You deserve to have your entire stay comped! It won't make up for the abuse you experienced, but at least you wouldn't be paying for it.

First off, let me offer my condolences to you for the passing of your father. It is a life changing experience to lose a parent at any age. Now, about your trip....we are devoted Poly people. We love WDW. It's our favorite place to go for a vacation. But, this year our son is graduating from college in CA and we thought since we'll be there anyway and it's the 50th, why not go to Disneyland? I haven't been there since the late 80's. It would be fun, albeit different from WDW. However, I have had a sinking feeling that the Disneyland Hotel, which wasn't such a great place even back in the 80's, would be an expensive nightmare. Your trip report has basically confirmed that for me. I'm hoping things picked up for you after you changed hotels and I'm looking forward to your next reports. We always stay at a Disney property because that is a wonderful part of the Disney experience. I don't think we'd enjoy staying at a Good Neighbor hotel nearly as much. Maybe we should just skip Disneyland and save the money for a WDW trip next year. What a shame!

Sounds like you had some yummy meals on this trip (except for that potato lasagna :crazy2: ). I've already heard some about it :), but I can't wait to read about your adventures at the Grand Californian. . .

Lucysdad, thanks for the condolences on my dad. I'm sure that made me extra sensitive, and not as able to deal with the problems I had.

The parks were nice, and when I get to writing the rest of my trip report, my hotel stay at the Grand Californian was much better than at the Disneyland Hotel.

I think I just had a string of bad luck.

 So sorry you had this incredible experience during a time when you needed things to go more smoothly.

I look forward to the remaining reports and hope that things did significantly improve.

Sorry to read about all the problems you had at DLH. We've only stayed "onsite" at DLR once, at PPH, and luckily our experience was exactly the opposite. The CMs couldn't go far enough out of their way for us. We've found that customer service at DLR can be hit or miss, unlike WDW where it's good 99% of the time.

I read somewhere that it's probably due to the fact that most people that work at WDW are looking for a career with Disney, and most that work at DLR are looking at it as just another job.

Sorry to here about what happened. I know when something like that happens its hard but good that you did report it to the manager because if you don't then they wouldn't know how bad you were treated. And if you needed to move to another hotel to feel better it is best and hopefully you can put it behind you and hope you have a wonderful rest of your trip~ :sunny:
:flower: :wave2:
