Day 3--Tuesday, October 11, 2005

I woke up bright and early and headed over to Storyteller’s to use my free breakfast voucher for breakfast. The voucher was good for a buffet. The food was quite good on the buffet, and included a few interesting items. At this time, I didn’t realize I’d be eating breakfast at this restaurant four times during my stay, so I made sure that I tried lots of different things. I loved my Mickey Waffles the best.

The character interaction was fantastic at this restaurant. Chip and Dale, Terk, and the bear from Brother Bear were all floating around the restaurant, and each of them made at least one stop at my table. Ranger Kyle was also floating around the restaurant, acting goofy and singing songs. The staff at this restaurant was extremely helpful and friendly (what a difference from the staff at Goofy’s Kitchen).

After breakfast, I headed over to Disneyland. I went and road Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and Pinnochio again. I went over to the Haunted Mansion as soon as it opened and took another ride on that.

I then left Disneyland, and headed over to California Adventure for opening. I immediately made my way back to the ferris wheel so I could get on one of the swinging cars without too long of a wait. Someone must have turned one of the cars into a vomit comet, as I was stuck on the ride for about 10 minutes while they cleaned it up. I enjoyed the ride, though. It’s quite thrilling the first time you get a really big swing on the swinging cars.

I then went on the Maliboomer, which was fun, but typical for the ride that you see at many amusement parks around the country. I then went on the Golden Zephyr, which was fun, relaxing, and had a great breeze. I also went on the little mini roller coaster (can’t remember the name off the top of my head). That was fun, but it hurt.

I then headed over to Grizzly River Run. I really enjoyed this ride, and luckily, I didn’t get too wet on the ride. I always seemed to be the one to get the most drenched on raft rides.

I went through the single riders line on Soarin’ and was on the ride within five minutes. I really enjoy this ride, which I went on at Epcot earlier in the year.

After Soarin’, I left the park and headed out in search of food. I wound up going to the Rainforest Café. I grabbed a seat at the bar, and ordered a buffalo chicken salad. The salad was excellent.

I then stopped back at the hotel for a while. I had a message that an envelope was waiting for me at the information desk. On Monday, I had spoken with someone from Disney Travel Co., and she was sending me some passes to get on rides without to make up for some of the time I wasted dealing with the staff at the Disneyland Hotel. When I got to the Information Desk, I had to wait a couple of minutes while cast members were joking around and laughing. Normally, this wouldn’t bother me, but after all the other problems I had encountered at the hotel, I was very annoyed that I had to wait while they chit chatted.

After a short break, I headed back to California Adventure. I took ride on the Tower of Terror, and another ride on Soarin’. I also did the tortilla and bakery tours, which were OK, but nothing I’d feel the need to do again.

I then found a spot to watch the Block Party Blast. This sure was a lot of fun. I was in the Toy Story Section, but could see the Monsters Inc. Section as well. It was fun watching the kids sing and dance. I absolutely loved the Boo costume!

After the Block Party Blast, I left California Adventure. I was thinking about going back to Disneyland for a while, but decided to head back to the hotel and go to Granville’s for dinner.

I started of with a iceberg wedge salad. The salad was good, but nothing special. It just was a quarter head of lettuce and a few tomatoes. I ordered a filet mignon and the potato stack. My filet mignon was excellent--very tender. The potato stack was not good at all--my waitress described it as potato lasagna. It was pretty disgusting. It had very little flavor, and the potatoes didn’t seemed to be cooked enough. I didn’t save room for dessert.

I encountered another rude cast member at Granville’s. I was using a coupon for my meal. The server made sure that I knew what the full cost of the meal is so that I could tip her appropriately. She mentioned her tip to me several times during the course of the meal! I was shocked by how often she brought her tip up to me. I had originally left her a very generous tip, but cut it in half after she repeatedly brought up her tip!

After dinner, I went back to the room and called it an early night. I was so tired that I feel asleep watching TV by about 9:00. I guess that the travel and the time difference was finally catching up with me.

Wow! Karen...you really had a rough time those first few days. I'm sorry you had such a rough trip.

I want to go to Cali in the next couple of years...I will make sure to avoid that hotel.

Great trip report!

Karen, you mentioned riding Grizzly River Rapids which I have riden. How does it compare with Kali River Rapids at AK? Might be trying that one in 2 week :sunny:

I like Grizzly River Rapids better than Kali. Grizzly is a longer ride, and much more thrilling. Also, it seems to not get you as wet as Kali. I've always come off Kali drenched. Grizzly didn't get me too wet.

I will say if you go on Kali, do it as you are leaving the park so you don't have to walk around in wet clothes all day. Not everyone gets drenched on it, but if you do, it's not fun walking around in wet clothes all day--I usually skip Kali for that reason.

Any comparison of the crowds to WDW? I'm really getting nervous about going to DL anytime soon due to the crowds.

Glad that you liked my favourite Matterhorn ride!

Also good news that Soarin' still has a singles line in California - the CM's in Florida said that it just wasn't working for them there.

I was quite surprised by the lines. Most of the thrill rides had very long lines--anywhere from 30-90 minutes most of the week. The only thrill ride that didn't seem to have a long line was the tower of terror.

Even the tour guides I had were surprised by the crowds.

tlinden16- Thank you so much, appreciate your opinion! I will follow your advice, thanks again!

Ick on that "potato lasagna". I had something recently on the Disney Wonder at Parrot Cay from the vegetarian menu that was made with gnocchi, "noodles" made of potato. I would describe what I was served as "potato lasagna", and it was very bland, and the texture made it thick and all but inedible. They ended up bringing me 2 other entrees because I hardly touched the gnocchi plate.

Still loving your reports, as always ::yes::.
