I know alot of you use ebay to save up money for Disney trips. I do too!

But did you know you can sell your old books, CDs, videos, DVDs, etc. thru Amazon? It's very easy, and a great way to clean out your closets. Just go to www.amazon.com click on the "Sell your stuff" tab and off you go. Every 2 weeks, they deposit your money into your checking account so you don't have to do that.

Check it out. I sold 5 books in the last few days!

Congrats on the sale! I've sold two things through amazon.com and currently have, I think, 5 books listed.

I've been doing this for 2 years now. I've probably sold about $300 worth so far this year. I currently have about 350 books, CDs and videos listed..

What I like about this is no up front costs. Unlike ebay, you can keep items listed for years without any charge. They only charge you once you sell an item. I also like the fact that I don't have to worry about payment--Amazon takes care of that. It's also nice that they deposit the money directly to my checking account.

And I've sold 3 more items since I wrote this post. With another week to go until they deposit the money, I've sold about $25 worth of stuff.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to put some books up there now too. Need all the help I can get going to Disney.

I sell lots of books on Amazon :). It pays for 100% of my trips to WDW. I buy the books at thrift stores and library sales and re-sell them for a profit. I have an inventory of about 1500 books and sold 27 books in the last 2 days. It's a lot of work, but since I stay at home it's my only job. I share expenses with a friend who sells under the same Amazon name and we share a freebie Yahoo email account that both of us can access. It's been working out so well that I had to declare the business on my taxes last year :earseek:.

I am also doing this to get rid of some books and make extra $$. I sold about $1,000 last year and this month I listed several more and cleared $100 after shipping, packaging, etc. I really like the system and have gotten only positive feedback from my customers.

I went to the website and read what they had. Am I understanding this right......You list the books, Amazon does the credit card transaction. They notify you who to ship the book to and then you get paid from Amazon less the .99 and the 10% commision? Is it really that easy?

Just checking to make sure --
Do all Books, Audiobooks, CDs, VHS, and Computer Games all fall into the category of "Items in the Everything Else Store" which is a 10 percent commission, or are any of these in "All other product lines" which is a 15 percent commission?

What is the difference between "Everything Else" and "All Other Products"?

Thanks
:D

I just went to put some of my books up for sale @ Amazon (John Grisham books and others) and it shows that there are already many of the same books on sale for just one cent! How do people make money selling a book for just 1 cent? Do they do it to get the shipping charges? I was real excited about selling my books online until I saw that.

I have a fast question............how do you know what a book is valued at? I'm talking about older books, ones dates from the early to mid 1900s. My MIL gave us a huge stack of old books, thinking my kids might be interested in reading them. They are in decent condition, 'aged' looking but no tears and covers are hard back and intact. ::yes:: Problem is, the books are so old, my kids aren't interested in reading them!:earseek:

SnowByte: People really don't make money selling books for a penny. Sometimes if I get a book in a bag sale which is in good condition, I'll sell it for a penny. Since I really didn't pay much for it, I might "make" about 50 cents in whole the transaction! I get .01 plus $2.26 per book for shipping. Since I'm a "Professional Seller" I pay $40 per month to Amazon instead of $1 per book.

always quiet: I like to use AddAll for my book searches: www.addall.com . You can also check www.alibris.com for prices.

Thanks for the tip. I have a few books I want to get rid of anyway.:D

I sell books on half.com which is an offshoot of Ebay. They charge a small percentage of your sale (I'm not really sure exactly how much) and give you credit for shipping. They deposit your earnings in the same way as Amazon. Sadly, they're merging into Ebay in October and then I'd have to start paying listing fees and what-not. I'm going to transfer all of my books to Amazon then, I'm glad to hear everyone likes it so well!

Okay, it makes more sense to me now. Thanks, RobinB.

Thanks for this idea. I listed my first book this morning. And sold it 6 hours later!!! I've been doing ebay for a couple of years. This was a whole lot more fun!!!

Okay I do ebay too and I'm confused...... Do you have to bring the book to the PO and ship it? so if you only make a penny and have to pay shipping say 2.26. and amazon refunds the shipping at 2.26 you are still only making a penny? I think I'm missing something.

I was just trying to figure out another way to make extra money. I always see books at yard sales. And I'm sure we have some laying around.

Thanks for any info. I'd like to start doing this.

This is such an incredible tip! I just listed a couple of books and I'm so excited. I just love the great ideas I get from this board!

Thanks for the great suggestion. It sounds pretty straightforward and a good way to unload some of my unneeded books and videos.

Thanks! I've got some books laying around that I'd like to get rid of. Off to go check out Amazon!
