It looks like she could turn into a Cat 2 hurricane sometime soon according to the weather forecasters.
the bad news(!) is that they are saying that September could be in their words, "a race track" of storms coming through :-(

Thanks Obi,

I thought it had all gone a bit too quiet!

We've literally just flown back in this morning and yesterday evening on the local news they were forecasting Tropical Storm 12 (now named Katerina) to hit land in south Florida early Friday morning. Winds of 70 mph are expected, together with massive rainfalls. She is then expected to turn into a hurricane once she leaves Florida and heads out west. Not particularly good news for anyone travelling in the next few days, but there are a couple of storms that have done all sorts of weird, unpredictable things (one blowing itself way ot of the area, but then reforming to again do nothing) since we've been out there (as they have a tendency to do), so just keep checking the National Hurricane Center's information on their website.

:cheer2:

We fly out the same day, so I'm hoping it's passed by then :umbrella:

The last time I went to Oralndo, I was ill and spent the first week in bed

Hope you have a great holiday too.

Krystal

:cheer2:

We are flying out on the 2nd so hoping everything is quiet by then.

Sorry to hear you were ill on holiday hope all goes well for you this time have a great time :cool1:

Now not a threat to Florida, but she has now becom a Catergory 5 hurricane!
Best wishes to those in her path in louisiana :-(

This is now looking REALLY bad for New Orleans.
The forecaster reckon that if it follows the path they have predicted, the levies will fail and downtown New Orleans will be under, wait for this
20 FEET of water!

Looks like Florida has a repreve but New Orleans is not looking good, considering it is mainly built below sea level  :sad2:
Just hoping people have got out if they can or if not got to safety somewhere. Not sure how much of NO will be left if the storm surge is as high as suggested :confused3
Thoughts to all those displaced people and those who cannot leave such as Police, Fire and Hospital staff, along with those who just could not find transport out.
Claire ;)

I did not know that New Orleans is in a bowl, and is 12 feet below sea level
looking very bad for them :-(

One guy was saying that the last time they were hit many bodies were around, not because of the hurricane winds, rain or floods, but because of all the poisonous snakes trying to get to the same high level pieces of land to avoid the salt water which kills them, taking an every man for themsleves attitude and biting people!

Forecasters have updated the information to she is now the fourth most intense hurricane ever recorded

You can't help but feel sorry for the people that are living in it's path, you suddenly realise how powerful the forces of nature are. Lets hope that people get out before it hits.

Wow this is scarey stuff :( Interesting stuff about the snakes, I would never have even thought about that.

Thoughts and prayers with everyone that is in the area. I know it is a cat 5 now, and moving at such a slow pace, this is a really nasty one :(

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Katrinas path. I can't immagine what these people are going through.

Michelle

Yes,

This is not going to be nice, lets hope the casualties are slight and just material objects.
