Another towel-type question from me...

How often do you wash towels?

  • After each use

  • After a couple uses

  • After a week

  • Longer than that

How often do you wash towels/washcloths? When I was growing up, we had a new one everyday (I had 2 a day-one for hair, one for body and a washcloth for morning and night). Then I got to college and let's just say that laundry wasn't a priority and since I didn't have THAT many towels, it wasn't a new one everyday. I definitely don't go as long as I did in college now, but I'm not using 2 of each everyday either. What do you do?

About a week...I use one for my hair and one for my body. Dh uses one. The kids use one each. Since my younger kids really enjoy running around naked after a bath, sometimes the towels are barely even damp!

We do use a new washcloth for every bath/shower, so those get washed just about every day. I don't do a special load, I just toss a few in with whatever else I am washing.

I use one a week. I'm in college. I use the same towel for my hair and my body; I just flip it to the other side when it's time to dry my hair. I have three towels, so I can go three weeks before the towels have to be washed.

We use bath towels for a week. Hand towels usually a week, but I might wash them more often if we're sick. I keep paper towels in our powder room, in addition to a hand towel (I have a home daycare license and this is a regulation) and I encourage my kids to use those when they are sick. We use a clean washcloth every day.

We wash after each use for bath towels and washcloths. Hand towels are more like every few days or whenever they need to be laundered.

Two towels per day for each of us. In the morning one for head the other for body, same in the evening. After that they go into the dirty clothes.

It was so funny after my DD went to college. All of the sudden I had stacks and stacks of towels. They wouldnt fit into cabinet even! :rotfl2: It seems like I use one towel, DH used 1 towel and DD about 7!!!

In our house, we wash them after each use with one exception. I'll use two towels per day -- one for my hair and one for my body. The body towel gets put into the hamper, but the hair towel gets used as my body towel the next day.

When DH was growing up, his mom made them all use the same towel. :crazy2: Sorry, but that's just gross!

DH and I keep ours seperate. I have one for my hair and one for my body. He has one of the body wraps (like a beach towel) that he uses. We wash them after every 5 - 7 uses. It can vary a little.

On my towel bar there is a hand towel nad bath towel. It gets nasty from the kids wiping their toothpasty mouths on it! I think I put new ones on every few days. DH uses a new towel for each shower and I use the same towel for a week. Just hang it up and dry! The kids only shower 2-3x a week so they don't go thru towels the way DH does.

OK I have question for those of you who use a new towel every day.

Why? You just got out of the shower! You (hopefully) washed your hair clean and washed every part of your body with hot water and soap. Then you rinsed it all off. All you are doing is drying the water off of your freshly washed body. Why won't you hang up the towel to dry and use it again the next day?

I can understand not wanting to re-use a towel someone else used :earseek: but your own? I don't understand why you would create that much work for yourselves :rotfl:

To answer the OP I re-use the towel for several days - probably 4 or 5. Then I get a new one.

It was how I was raised for one thing, but also....

Do you know how many germs, parasites, icky stuff LIVES on your body? And what doesn't RINSE off in the shower, can come off in your towel! :crazy2:

I saw a talk show once about this. They showed under a microscope stuff that lives on your hand towels, wash rags, and those BODY SCRUBBY things? ICK ICK ICK!!!! Sure was happy for the way my mama raised me. :cloud9:

Well I'm not dead yet and I rarely get sick :cloud9: I think my mama raised me just fine. I used to use two new towels every day, and when I became a teenager I was taking two showers a day so I used four. She started making me do my own laundry. I rethought the towel thing. :rotfl:

That is exactly what we do..Dh only uses one per day so his always goes right into the hamper. I use my hair one for my body the next day. I prefer to wash bath towels after each use.

It's really just a personal preference. There are {ahem} certain body parts that get dried and I'd just as soon not dry my face on the same spot the next day. Especially at that time of the month. Just yuck.

My kids each have their own towels/hand towels in their bathrooms which I wash weekly. DH and I share a body towel so that gets changed out/washed every couple of days. We each also have our own handtowels at our sinks and I wash those weekly.

My mom told me to dry 'those parts' with toilet paper during 'that time'. Keeps the towels clean.

I only use a towel for my hair, I change it weekly. I use a terrycloth robe and just wrap up in that- I have very dry skin so drying with a towel isn't good.

I always pick up my bath towel, tag end up and dry my face on that end. That way I know that I'm not drying my face on the part of the towel used to dry those certain parts. LOL
