Another thread about the "War on Christmas"

Is that supposed to be helpful? :confused3

I was just trying to lighten the mood.

Welcome back from your trip. I was planning to go this week but we had to cancel b/c we couldn't find airfare cheap enough.

The Commie shirts seem very offensive. Although the reason shirts wouldn't bother me.

FTR I never said you were stirring trouble and I suck at googling.

I know it wasn't you, just explaining things. Thanks for the replies and letting me explain things without the things others decide to throw my way.

I hope I am not included in this. I did google the phrase that you used and found nothing unusual. It is possible that the wearer added the extra words to an existing shirt. I just found it easier for you to show me what you saw rather than me search and not find it.

Well then thanks, but I really don't see how that helps. The stuff from him today has really been more than I should have to take.

And one more time for the record, nothing I saw was as simple as the "reason for the season". The ones that said that also said something like "for those that understand reason".

Of course there were lots of shirts that simply said Merry Christmas, I've never tried to say there wasn't anything that was simply holiday cheer.

But there really were plenty of ones along the lines of the example I gave.

I agree - we were only given "reason for the season" - I googled that and came up with innocent stuff. It would have been easier if the examples were just given from the start. I agree those are just " in your face" to downright nasty and rude!

There was more than one person who implied that I didn't give examples because I just wanted to stir the pot and there were no examples out there. That's simply not true.

I have the overwhelming urge to jump between the middle of you two and yell, "Time Out!". :santa:

Because I respect you, and because I must have unitentionally crossed a line with Cardaway, I will apologize and back off.

I thought the "Buddy Christ" ones were funny because of "Dogma". I doubt that anyone who would actually buy that shirt or wear it has ever seen the movie. (which I, good Catholic that I am, not only own, but really, really like)
Anyway, the rest of the shirts were silly and the intent behind them is something that whoever designed them should be ashamed of.
I'm leaving for WDW tomorrow morning (happy dance!!) and the only holiday shirt I will be taking is my "Joy From the World" shirt from 2005. Provocative buttons and clothing really doesn't have a place there, whether political or religious. WDW is the place where we should be able to put all that stuff aside for a few days. We can all go back to poking each others sensitive buttons and insulting the opposition when vacation is over.

I've clarified more than once on this thread that they were much more than "reason for the season". I only used that phrase because it's the most common and one shirt I saw actually had that phrase with a rude and sacrcastic one added bwlow it. IIRC it was something like "for those that can undersand reason" and it was using the Rankin/Bass characters.
Gotcha, I guess I didn't understand what you meant by that. Thanks for the clarification and I agree, the stuff you mention is ignorant. I would have been just as disgusted if I saw it and maybe even more so because I find that sort of stuff a mockery of my faith.

Thankfully, I don't hang around anyone who would use their faith to express something like that.

It's interesting that people would decide to wear junk like that on a family vacation, I could see if they were at some sort of protest where the mood is confrontational to begin with, but WDW? That is just tasteless and inappropriate.

FWIW, I never assumed that you were not posting links to stir the pot or anything like that. I have discussed issues with you long enough to know that isn't how you operate. I just truly did not know exactly what you were talking about, I haven't encountered anyone wearing shirts like that.

ETA for clarity: The shirts you linked to are kind of funny in a wierd sort of way. Say you saw a whole lot of these exact shirts at WDW recently? And that's what rained on your parade? I'm not calling you a liar; it's just that I can't believe they're that popular.
I can't believe they are that popular either. It just seems so tacky and rude. The reason for the season is not so bad, but those are. (Mike I do believe that you saw them, ust trying to clarify that first part)
