Another swimming in January thread...UK residents?

So we have finally booked Yacht Club (hoping to switch to Beach Club) after years of staying everywhere else at WDW. Unfortunately, it will be January. I know my kids would be very disappointed to not get to try Stormalong Bay on our trip. I'm wondering just how heated the pools are. I know weather can vary (former FL resident) but as former UK residents, I'm wondering if we could pull off 2 hours in the pool without experiencing hypothermia. ;) We have gone swimming in the heat of summer (65 degrees, tops) in the North Sea in Scotland. Could we manage 2 hours at Stormalong Bay? We're currently Texas residents and not terribly acclimated at this point. :)

Am I crazy to even consider bringing swimsuits?

You can bring swim suits. The pools ARE heated. However, don't expect to stay in them for 2 hours. I have been to WDW in January and did try swimming. The high temperatures during my trip were probably in the 60s. Lows were obviously much colder. Swimming was not at all comfortable for me, and the worst part wasn't being in the water, it was getting out of the pool! Staying IN the water for 2 hours straight is a really long time, and I can almost guarantee at that time of year getting in and out will be unpleasant at best. If you are willing to brave the cold and discomfort just to try out the pool and go down the water slide, go for it! But an afternoon at the pool probably isn't happening unless you're really brave ;)

Pools are heated to 82 degrees. The swimming is not an issue, it's the getting out of the heated pool when the air is chilly that can be an issue for some.

My son and I have enjoyed the pools for a couple hours when the air temp has been 37. My wife on the other hand thought we were nuts and would never. It all depends on the person.

We stayed at BC last December, and although it was our hottest December yet (last 6 christmas holidays spent in Disney), it was still a little chilly when we got out to run around to the slide starting point, and believe me we did it soooo many times as the slide is good and well worth a little chatter of the teeth. Enjoy

It all depends on the weather. We've been at Disney the last 4 years for Marathon weekend, the first weekend in January. We were at POFQ, not YC.

All 4 years were warm enough to take a dip, with 2 of them being warm enough that it felt good to get in the water. (And I'm a skinny 50+ year old guy with thin blood!)

We've been the last 2 January, 2015 was perfect swim weather 3 out of 5 days of our stay; 2016 was too cold even though we still went in the pool 2 days (1/2 hour tops!). I think 2016 was colder because of the el nino.

My son had no problem swimming in January! I sat with my feet in the pool in the sun and was comfortable. I thought it was too cold to swim.

I've swam in January in Florida...Gulf of Mexico and the temps were in the 70's-low 80's...and I've seen it in the 40's and 50's as well. If you can handle Scottish North Sea, Florida will be a breeze for your kids.

I'm thinking my husband can get in the pool with the kids while I enjoy a hot boozy drink while sitting in a pool chair bundled up. ;) Sounds fair, right?

That's exactly how it was in my family. Everyone wins!
