Another stupid question - 2 suitcases?

Hello,

We have always only ever taken one suitcase each on holiday with us. As we are flying with BA and then VA on separte tickets I thought we would probably only take 1 case each again.

However I received an email from BA today about are forthcoming flight and I can add an extra case for £21. Which seems v reasonable to me.

Am I right in thinking that you are allowed two cases each on VA flights? Do you guys take two cases each? Do you take two out with you or do you buy one out there?

Thanks, Kxx

We fly with Virgin and have 3 large cases, there are just the 3 of us.

You can buy cases of all types in Orlando and usually at pretty cheap prices, we got an extra one at Premium Outlets last year.
Maybe you could do that, could depend on how much shopping you do.

I would have thought you would be allowed more than one case each?

Since VA slashed their baggage allowance we found we couldn't take our extra large suitcases anymore. We tried with a smaller one each this February and it just wasn't enough space so when we go in January next year we are taking two smaller ones each.

We always take 4 cases when flying with Virgin, but we have the benefit that 2 cases fit inside 2 larger cases so only carry 2 out but ALWAYS bring the 4 back. If you get what I mean.

we have 4 kids so that 6 x baggage allownace and we usually use it all:rotfl: :rotfl:

There are two of us, when e fly out we fly out with one case each, but inside each in another case, so we fly back with four. The cases are cheap out there, but I like to know I have good light ones and not have to go looking for some to buy.

If you have four suitcases and four people how do you get everything in the car at the other side????

We upgraded to a Grand Jeep Cherokee when we landed at Sanford as we had 4 adults and 4 big suitcases and they fitted in no probs.

Silly question here again as I havent looked yet what is the allowance for 2 adults and 2 children? (one being 2 years old and the other will be 8?).:thumbsup2 with VA.

we go to the states with 2 full cases and 6 empty duffels (there are 4 of us)...
the duffels (all the very large ones) are all inside one of the empty duffels - that is 5 empty duffels packed into a 6th empty duffel...

in the 2 suitcases we have all the clothes/shoes etc we need for the 4 of us for the trip...

then when we fly back at the end of the visit, we put all the stuff we've bought on the trip into the 6 empty cases ... which means we then have 8 suitcases or 2 suitcases per person....

you may think that's a lot, but we actually sometimes even end up buying a few more duffels and taking 3 per person back with us (we're entitled to bring 3 each because we fly business class on our airline)..

in any case, we often have LOTS of luggage on the return trip...

the difficult part of that, is getting to the airport...we usually have to have a giant 12 person van pick the 4 of us up to get us to the airport...

Virgins luggage allowance is Two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 23kg (51lbs). When added together, the three dimensions of any piece of luggage must not exceed 158cm (62in).

So that's 46 Kg per ticketed person in Economy.
PE gets two pieces at 32Kg and Upper Class 3 pieces at 32KG each

No case can weigh more than 32Kg and that is a Health & safety issue, not Virgins rules you will see its the same for any airline going through British airports.

That is more than enough for any passenger?

As for other airlines:-

BA is two bags in Econ and PE 23Kg each max weight
First and Club 3 bags at 23Kg each

American
2 cases 23Kg each max

Flyglobespan
Economy 20Kg
PE 30Kg
Buisness 40Kg
Max including paying for more weight (excess baggage) is 50Kg per pax, 32Kg max weight per case

Monarch
20Kg per passeneger (30Kg Vantage Gold & silver members) 32Kg max per case

First choice
20Kg per person 23 for upgradeed cabins

So Virgins "slashed" baggage allowance is not bad actually is it??

Virgin's baggage allowance is basically what i've seen with almost all the major airlines .....as in your list, BA and American....NW and KLM are similar to that (though NW is a bit more generous than KLM - hard to believe that NW is generous about anything)...

I fly El Al and it's probably the same - but they tend to be liberal with their business passengers....they've never said anything to us about luggage weight....and i know i'm often over the weight limit.....they just check it in....not a word....so at least that....

some airlines are so strict, if you're one ounce overweight they charge you (air canada's like that)...

Yes, El Al's (Official :) ) luggage allowance (to the USA) is
Economy 2 X 23KG
Buisness 3 X 32 KG
First class 4 X 32KG !!
They also allow FF in Matmid Silver and extra 5KG and Matmid Gold 10KG

Nice allowances!
