Another Rookie Mom Mistake

I know I didn't have cameras following me around, but I assure you, I made darned sure that I was supporting my childs head while carrying him through a crowd!

Most parents want to protect the child from bumping others and to avoid snapping their neck when you have to walk fast, or was I just overprotective?

I have 2 dd's who are tweens but my nephew is a little younger than Brit's son. I don't support his head when we are out in a mall. He holds himself up.

I don't see the big point about her holding a drink in the other hand. Does anyone think it was an alcoholic drink? She was probably carrying a coffee or water. Again that is something I have done.

Also let's not forget she is pregnant and that is probably affecting how securely the baby can sit on her hip.

I am no fan of hers but I don't see this as a large problem. Now the 2 car incidents were just wrong. I was surprised no one commented the 2nd time that the child was in the back of a convertible with the top down in the sun.

When DS was only 3 weeks old I was sleeping with him on my chest on the couch. Somehow he managed to roll and he fell off the couch and landed face down on the floor with a sickening thud. I can still hear that sound in my head. I still feel horrible to this day about that.

Was this photo taken when she was pregnant.

Unfortunately--yes--when I have lost balance preggers---whatever in my hands would give way to me not harming myself. Granted--that doens't mean I'd toss the child I was carrying. I know that one arm while bracing myself would be trying to brace my child. Unfortunately--with still images....you are missing that part of the story if it exists.

I sometimes stumble and/or fall for no reason or for some reason---but b/c I know this happens, I have over the years taught myself how to fall. Like in December--I fell flat while running--but b/c I still had weak muscles post surgery (I was cleared to run)--when I knew I was going to fall...I fell in such a way as to not injure my leg that was compromised. Hard to explain.

But the gist is--you cannot from a 2-D image what was precisely happening in a 3-D world.

Arielle--you missed a whole thread on the 2nd car incident.

Everyone should just leave the poor woman alone. I am certainly no fan of hers, but for crying out loud cut her a break. I'm glad no one has ever judged my parenting skills. Sometimes I wonder how first born children arent all totally screwed up as they dont come with intructions. We all learn as we go and...WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES..MANY OF THEM!

All I can say is I'm glad I don't have paparazzi following me around taking pictures of me every time I stumble or make a parenting mistake.

Me too.

Really, why does anyone care?

Ah, but then why do you care enough to post even that response? The ones who really don't care just read the thread and moved on, and the ones who really, really don't care didn't even read it at all.

I just think that this is a fascinating sociological experiment.

I toyed with the idea of posting a thread that said "I was out shopping when this woman walked by, carrying her baby in one hand and a drink in the other. She tripped over her super-long jeans and nearly dropped the baby. She never even let go of her drink! Luckily some guy on the street was able to catch the baby before he fell." And gauging the responses the same incident would get if it were not about Britney Spears.

I'll have to try that next time she drops him.

Ah, you're one of those. Ok, have fun with your mind games.

The DIS IS a fascinating sociological experiment! One I'm aMAZED by everyday!!

What is fascinating in my many falls--how one can manage to avoid dropping a drink. No idea why that is so---but if one is falling, for some reason the reflex is to avoid spilling one drop of liquid.

Post a thread on that. See where your experiment takes you.

You obviously have way too much time on your hands... can I suggest a hobby...? :confused3

Oh please. I really doubt this was meant to be some great experiment. :rotfl2:

I thought that was the whole purpose of the Dis. :confused3 Am I wrong?
Personally, I hope that the main purpose of the DIS is to discuss WDW and Florida. But why bother when you can slam Britney and Tom and whoever else endlessly.

My only comment on this new Britney incicent would be that if she is THAT sick of the Papparazi and THAT sick of being photographed then she should do like everyone else in Hollywood who has babies that are never photographed and go out the garage of the hotel where no photographers are waiting. She craves this attention and puts herself in these situations - JMO.

I think it's a bigger deal because of all the other "mishaps". Come on, Britney, tuck and roll, tuck and roll!

hey, you live the life, you pay the price! I agree with the other posters who mentioned all the other celebs who manage to raise their children out of the public eye.

I think everyone (including the paparazzi) should cut the girl some slack. She is very young. And, while I think she and all young mothers could benefit from parenting classes, accidents do happen.
Cripes, when my brother was little, my Mom had him in the ER so many times she was afraid they were going to call social services!
Some people are just more accident prone.
Now, add to that a couple dozen photogs chasing you down the street. One of them probably pushed or bumped into her for pete's sake! I've seen them do it!
What nobody is commenting on is the guy behind Brit trying to help her. He's making sure he "catches" the baby. It's just a reflex to try to juggle what's in your hands. If it was hot coffee she was carrying, she's certainly not going to throw it down and risk burning someone (including the baby).

Since we're all confessing to parenting mistakes, here's mine: Remember all the warnings on walkers to not use near steps? Well, I was VERY careful about that. But I took DD to a party and didn't check out the steps, and sure enough.....I'm on the other side of the room and she rolled right off the steps. It was like slow motion, I'm yelling nooooooooo and trying to leap over people, tables, decorations everything. Didn't matter, DD still landed hard on the concrete floor. Anybody want to put me in jail?

I refuse to bicker about this, converse about it or question your motives.

Well goody for you. Enjoy the $5.

You could buy a drink with that $5!! :thumbsup2 Just stick your child in his highchair before consuming it. Wait.... not a good idea..... drop him in the carseat..... wait, not a good idea, either...... give him to the babysitter... wait, another not so great idea....

I was under the impression that the baby was not actually dropped...did he actually fall? If not, what is the big deal?

The baby could have suddenly flung backwards, like my kids all did around that age. It's like a game that my kids liked to play. Bounce, bounce, bounce, fling...either forward or backward.
