I've read a lot of things about refillable mugs, but am unsure what the latest information is. I am undecided about bringing our ASMo mugs from our last visit, when we return to ASMo next month. I don't want to bring them if they are now saying that the mugs are for length of stay only. Can anyone who has been recently advise me.
Thanks
Chris

I would also like to know the answer to this, when we bought the mugsat the poly in 2000, we were told that the mugs were good forever, but I keep getting conflicting info.

Okay, I'll be the first one here!!! We were at the Polynesian last month. We bought mugs. I saw others using all sorts of cups at the soda area. New mugs from the Polynesian, Big Gulp cups, styrofoam cups etc. When we stayed at POR, we bought new mugs. Didn't use our mugs from our previous visit. I realize there is a lot of controversy here about when/how long you can use mugs. I figure that it is a souvenier from each visit. I use them to hold pencils etc when we get home!!! I have a nice collection. I personnally couldn't be bothered bringing mine on each trip!!

Hi. I just got back. We stayed at the Contemporary in November and we stayed there again last week. I specifically asked the cashier if I could reuse my mugs even though I bought them during our November trip. She said yes and then she told me that we can use them each time we come back to the Contemporary.

there are signs at each and every place you buy these mugs that say they are good for length of stay only.

This is the link for prices and policy.
CMs are famous for 1. not understanding the question 2. not listening to the question and 3. not knowing policy.

GAIL HAYDEN,
Ah but what if the mug you have is the same one that they sold the year befor? then the cashiers would not know if you purchased it this year or not. When my husband got is at POFQ in 2000, they had the excat same one(green handle & lid) in 2001.
It wasn't until we went in 2002 that they had a different color(purple handle & lid). Same scene though Mickey and a nephew fishing, Donald and Goofy playing instruments.

Hi,
I don't make the rules, I don't enforce the rules, I just quote em as I see em, the choice to follow them or ignore them is up to you.
:)

Yes, technically the mugs have always been only good for the stay during which you purchase them... but in reality chaos reigns at the Coke machines. Use whatever you want: old mugs, 7-11 mugs, camelbacks, cups from other amusement parks, etc. etc. Your chances of being stopped is close to nil.

We have mugs from the ASMu which we purchased in February and we are returning to visit the other two AS resorts very shortly. I plan on buying more mugs for this trip, two at the ASSp and two at the ASMO but I am checking out of one resort and then checking into another.

Does this mean the mug I buy at the ASSp is no good for my stay at the ASMo, which is a new reservation and different dates?

If it does then, I guess I will be one of those who use the mugs for a different stay and will enjoy every bit of the refill opportunity.

Ooooo I love these questions!!

It is WDW policy that mugs are to be used for length of stay only. It is also against policy if you take a video or flash camera picture of the inside of attractions or behind scenes. There are probably tons and tons of these rules or policies. The questions really are are you going to make the decision to do what you want anyway and will the CM's care to get into a confrontation over the policy, that is if they know the policy.

Personally, I won't be reusing our refillable mugs when we return this December. I felt like my wife and I had to sneak around and get refills when we brought our mugs back to WDW. Wasn't worth it for me to feel that way, not that I was feeling guilty, just dumb. Besides, they make a great souvineer that pay for themselves.

Gail i'm sorry i didn't mean any thing by my last post, i was just asking a hypothetical question.
Chowells,
Personally I can't be bothered to bring the mugs back again, to bothersome. If we wish the free refils than we just purchase a new mug. We don't spen a whole lot of time at the resort anyway. And then if you used it in the morning you would either have to run it back to your room, or carry it to the parks.

Truth be told, this is one of those topics/questions that always gets my goat. Why? Because let's face it. While there are some people who are honestly unclear on what the policy may be, there are a whole lot of others who - whether knowing that it's a "length of stay" offer or opting to not even buy the mugs and instead using a Big Gulp cup or whatever - simply opt to either ignore or "feign ignorance" of the policy.

The biggest problem I have with this is that many of those same people will carp about the fact that Disney doesn't provide the service it once did. That prices are going up. That cutbacks are impacting their level of enjoyment. But what they never stop to think about is the fact that in their own way - small as it may seem - they're chip, chip, chipping away at the very thing they love. It reminds me of people who complain about the price of groceries in their local supermarket, but then push the cart home and leave it in front of their apartment building, never taking into consideration the fact that the store will either have to A) fork out the money for a new cart; or B) hire someone to go and gather up said carts. Either way, someone's got to pay for it, and the offenders will then stand in the deli department asking, "How dare you charge so much for a pound of turkey?"

I figure anyone who uses their mug even once a day over the course of a week is going to sure as heck get their money's worth out of the original investment, given the price of individual sodas. And most people probably use it more than once a day... I know I fill my mug in the morning before hitting the parks, throw it in my backpack (in a baggie) and then stop on my way back to the room for a "nightcap."

Oh, lord, am I ranting? I must be getting old. Sorry about that!

3 points if I may:

1) I used to say the policy was what I'd read. I was of the "1 mug - 1 resort - 1 visit" school of thought. I've made a 180 degree turn (based on #2 and #3 below). Although my chances of changing anyone's mind may be "close to nil," I just have to try!

2) Has anyone ever been denied a refill? If so, then it's possible they were embarrassed and humiliated. If they were told at the point of purchase their mugs were good forever, there's a chance they may never return to WDW. That would be a potential loss to Disney of many thousands of dollars (see #3 below). If not, then that fact tells us what the real policy is. It doesn't matter what the signs or a website says if the reality of what goes on in the food courts of WDW is different, in my opinion (of course).

3) The mugs are a business promotion. Disney is typically trading a week's worth of soda and coffee for thousands of dollars in park tickets, resort accommodations, food and souvenirs. Disney will make that trade any day of the week and twice on Sunday! I believe Disney is thrilled when you return to WDW and re-use your mugs.

I don't know if this helped, but I'd say re-use the mugs! :Pinkbounc :bounce: That's my story and I'm sticking to it... until additional information becomes available! I'm going to WDW soon and will hopefully buy refillable mugs and use them in other resorts. The purpose of my experiment* will be to give WDW employees every chance to make me the first Disney guest to ever be denied a free refill.  If it happens I know my Mom will be so proud! :)

* I'll have to leave the "re-use mug at same resort on a different visit" experiment to a future visit or to one of you interested readers who may be scientifically inclined and sympathetic to our cause. Long live the mugs! ;)

The last few years I have actually packed our mugs from ASMusic. My husband laughs at me. Of course we take the train from Ma. down , so i have room in my suit case. This summer we stayed at the ASMovies. So dd bought mug. But they are all the same mugs. I would not use any thing else to fill our soda with, although believe me , we saw alot of strange containers being filled. lol. If you dont want to bother bringing them back , just by new ones. Like every says it least its a souvener. But i would not worry about anyone saying anything or even notice you, cause let me tell you this summer the place was PACKED. And i mean packed. Besides what would they gain over saying anything. They are to busy doing other things. We were told , every summer when we are there, that it is fine.
