Another reason why I think ADR's should be made online

I was just thinking to myself if guests were able to make ADR's online wouldn't it be easier for them check if a restaurant was available, instead of always calling WDW-Dinning and having the Cast Member do that? For example if someone 1st calls WDW-Dinning and our told a specific location like Chef Mickey's is not available for the day or time they want, isn't checking online easier then always calling back?

I suspect that Disney doesn't want to make it too easy. Right now, at least the minor inconvenience and expense of the call is there as a deterrant to making multiple ADRs for the same meal. If it was as simple as registering multiple names on Disney.com and being able to book ADRs with the click of a mouse, I think a lot more people would do it.

Wouldn't they put some program on making sure guests would not be able to do that and because others trying to double book ADR's at another restaurant for the same date and time?

It would be difficult to do effectively. Just like the indexing by phone number that Disney dining uses now, any system set up to try to prevent double bookings would be easy to circumvent. Getting alternate e-mail addresses to register with is even easier than using alternate phone numbers under the current system, and I think the combination of easier booking and an easier work-around would encourage double booking.

But until they hire some web designers that won't force you to sit through long animations before you can click on a your next link on your way to the page you need, I won't be using it.

And you would get all these idiots booking up tons of Cindy's ADR's then selling them online. It would be a nightmare to reserve anything. It really doesn't take that long to call.

I actually read or saw some where that Disneys web site was voted one of the best. All I could think was My husband can design a more effective web site and he doesn't have tons of money at his disposal.

I really don't like to take up the time of the reservation staff to make the ADR's. I can't explain it, it just feels to me like I'm wasting someone's time when they could be making valuable hotel reservations. I know, I know, Disney makes money from the meals too. It would be so much better if they could do this online somehow (and of course have the phones for back up ressies).

Disney is about 10 years behind on technology. It's not their strong point =) I agree, it'd be really nice if more was done via the net.

That's a penalty to the restaurants. I made an ADR years before my first on site stay. Eating Disney and sleeping Disney are mutually exclusive, let's keep it that way.

I'm working on a last-minute trip for December...a party of 4 from CA and our family in MO (7 of us)....they already had some ADRs...I made a few but need to change/add/check for others. The thought of being on the phone and trying to figure some of this out makes me positively crazy. Add to that the fact that they required us to become a "Grand Gathering" and I don't know which way is up anymore...

I'd love to be able to do some of this online in my own time...

A good way to avoid the double booking, is to take a credit card number. If you do not cancel within 24 - 48 hours of the ADR, they charge you $10 per person. Also, people couldn't use fake names as easily, if they had to have a credit card number to hold the ADR. It wouldn't solve everything. But it would make it more troublesome to double book.

I tend to agree with ghost1000 that it would be great if they could do something online but have it geared towards folks staying on property who have a reservation#.

I don't ever see Disney going totally online for their reservation system nor do I see them opening up their books to the world to show how much room is available on any given night. However, the convenience of giving an online reservation option to guests staying at their hotels (or DVC members) would be a welcome change. (done right of course.)
