If I use 60 pts to book for a week in December 2005 and it turns I can't go and have to cancel will I still have full use of the points? I'll also be booking for Oct 2006 in November knowing for sure we will be going so could I apply the points that we couldn't use in December to that vacation??

If you cancel at least 31 days in advance, your points will be returned to your account with the same status as they had just prior to booking. If you used current year points for the December 2005 reservaation, the points would still be current year points. If you used banked or borrowed points for the reservation, the points would still be banked or borrowed and expire at the end of your use year.

We'd have to know your use year to tell you if you could use the points for an October 2006 reservation.

Actually, you may have full use of your points. It depends on a)when you cancel...if you cancel at least 31 days prior to arrival the points are returned to their use year. b) are you within any deadlines associated with your use year for banking.

For instance, I have a June use year. If I have a May 2005 ressie using 50 points and I cancel 31 days out, those points are returned to my June 2004 use year. I can not bank those points, since I would be in the "no banking" window. I would then have to use or lose those points by May 31, 2005.

I'm working on a buy in from dh as to the Dec 2005 trip... just depends on how much a flight will be for us!

Ok with a June use year -

Your 2005 points are good for stays between 6/1/2005 and 5/31/2006
Your 2006 points are good for stays between 6/1/2006 and 5/31/2007
Your 2007 points are good for stays between 6/1/2007 and 5/31/2008
Your 2008 points are good for stays between 6/1/2008 and 5/31/2009
etc.

If you cancel your December 2005 (which I assume will be made using only your 2005 points) more than 31 days before arrival date, the points will just go back into your account. They have to be used for a stay before 5/31/2006 or they expire. OR you can bank them into your 2006 use year. Then they will be good for stays between 6/1/2006 and 5/31/2007 - whcih means they will work for your October 2006 trip.

With a June use year, you can bank up to 100% of your annual allotment of points if you do it before the end of November. You can only bank up to 50% of the total if you do it between December 1 and the end of February. You can only bank 25% of the total if you do it between March 1 and the end of March. You can't bank at all uring the last two months of your use year (April & May).

Anyway, as long as you cancel the December trip more at least 31 days prior to the arrival date, you will be fine - you will be able to bank the 60 points into 2006 and use them for your big trip in October, 2006.
