Has there ever been an increase in the number of points it costs to rent at a particular resort? In other words, do I have to consider the need to purchase additional points in the future to get me that same week's vacation? I know with traditional timeshares you buy a week and you are basically guaranteed a week's vacation for the length of your ownership. If I buy enough points to guarantee me a weeks vacation will there be a point increase for that same time period, say 5 years down the road?
TIA!

DVC can reallocate points needed for a given date/season. Overall, the total points on the chart for a resort can not change. If one season or day goes up, another must go down.

In practice, reallocation is a complex formula and it has only happened once in the history of DVC - at OKW in 1996. The adjustment was relatively minor. But I do remember getting studios for 69 points per week in value season, rather than the current 80.

Since Easter will change each year, those times will also vary greatly.

Yikes! I guess this has me a bit concerned? How did Disney justify the reallocation? Of course this was one of DH questions and I have to give him an answer I'm afraid he won't like. From what I can tell using OKW as an example, points went up across the board. If Disney has the authority to reallocate the points higher, then we will need to purchase more points to get the same room as before, am I right? Am I missing somehting? How do I sell this to DH?
Thanks!

Reallocation means when they raise the points for one set of nights, they must lower the points for another. There are only so many points that they can work with, a limited number. It can't be raised across the board, say two points to every night. That would be 730 extra points that they don't have to use. So if Sun thru Thur is raised one point per night (total of 5 points for the week), then Sat and Sun have to go down a total of 5.

Actually what they do is raise one time of year and lower another. So if they raised the month of Oct, they might lower the month of January.

Deb & Bill-
You came through for me again. Thank you! I finnally understand and I am very happy that DH should not have a problem with it. However, I don't think he really cares anymore. Just last night in the car, DH aksed me if I took care of everything. I told him I was searching to answer a few of his quetions. He then told me to "Just go and do it"! I would have last night but I still have not recieved our package from our guide. Should be here Monday. I am going to take care of business quickly so there are no second thoughts by DH! Thanks Again!!! :)
