I've noticed in the UG and on the MGM site that crowds are suppose to thin in MGM after 3 pm -- dose this occur in the summer season as well? We'rer going in July, and would consider doing MGM as a early afternoon/evening thing if crowds were more manageable then. If not, we'll have to be there bright and early LOL like at the other parks! Thanks for your responses!

I'm not Len, but he'll correct me if he disagrees. ;)

At both MGM and MK, crowds will tend to thin out after the mid-day parades. Many people who arrived at opening will be ready for a break before dinner time, and will head for the exits after the parade has ended.

This pretty much happens year-round.

In fact, if you don't plan on watching the parade, you can often find some relief in standby times for rides beginning before the parade even starts as people start to line up for a good view.

The only caution I'll make is regarding the FastPass tickets. If you don't arrive in the park until mid-afternoon, it's conceivable that some rides FastPasses will already be gone for the day, or that the return times will run near closing time. The FP machines will open shortly after the park itself, and their supply is entirely dependent upon guest demand on that individual park day.

Good luck.

Len if you're reading this post or anyone else who might know.....
we are going Sept. 8th -15th. Are these dates considered summer or fall???

There is an influx of crowds every evening prior to Fantasmic. also many people dine at MGM before Fantasmic. During Fantasmic a large amount of people are in the theater if there are two showings. But the park can still be pretty crowded if there are two showings. September, even the last week of August, is quieter.

I wouldn't want to be coming into MGM in the afternoon. It's crowded, alot of people are heading to Fantasmic later in the eve, and the FP's are gone. TOT had a 120 minute wait in the eve, don't know about RNR, but probably long too. MGM just doesn't have alot of rides, a few shows are possible I suppose. We preferred the mornings, got much more accomplished.

Hey Barb. tjkraz is right about the parade drawing folks away from the attractions. This is true in every park, not just the Studios. 3 pm is a decent time to ride the non-FASTPASS attractions in Tomorrowland, for example. And I think tjkraz meant to say 'AK' not 'MK' - the AK exhibits a steep drop-off in crowds after 3:30 pm. At least until Everest opens.

During summer, I think that thinning crowds will be, relatively speaking, still big at the Studios. And as AuroraluvsPhillip notes, the FASTPASSes for the most popular attractions will probably be gone, or really far into the night.

If you got to the Studios by 1 or 1:30 pm, you'll be okay. Much later than that and I'd say it's probably not worth the effort.

Dansyr, I'd consider those dates 'fall' - they're less crowded than summer.

Hope this helps,

Len
