Another question DLH vs PPH - Now staying at GCH!! yea!!

I can book the PPH upper level theme park view for the same price as DLH standard view. Here is my dilema. I am taking my parents, Mom will be in a wheelchair and they will probably be taking more breaks than my son and I, so my Dad will be pushing her. He is not in the greatest shape either.

I want the very fewest steps possible for them. GCH is out of our budget, so it is between those 2. I know you can shortcut through GCH from PPH to CA, but we will probably be spending about 75% of time in DL. Is there still a shortcut from PPH to DL? Or is the DLH just a closer option?

I'm sure they would use monorail some to DL if it saves them steps, (of course not the first time we enter the park).

Also, do either of the hotels have balconies? It would be nice to have a balcony with a theme park view.

Neither hotel has balcony. From GCH, you can use the lobby entrance to DTD which brings you very close to the esplanade.

I would take the PPH view over DLH standard in a heartbeat. It would be much easier to push your mom across the street and through GCH than through DTD.

I'd do this too, if you are walking slow you might appreciate the extra climate control also. Chances are the PPH room will be closest and the Monorail will not save distance.

Not an answer to your original question, but PPH has three elevators plus the glass elevator. At busy times, it can be hard to catch an elevator. I would imagine that it would be even harder with a wheelchair. Going up isn't a problem, but at times you may have to wait a few cycles when trying to catch a down elevator.

Have you thought of renting an ECV for your mom? DMIL used a wheelchair and my DH was the designated pusher and about wore himself out. The parks aren't quite as flat as they seem. On the next trip, DMIL rented an ECV and it really made a difference, tho she wasn't the best driver. The scooters do take some getting used to. Some people "test drive" a scooter at a grocery store or at a zoo where there aren't quite as many people.

I would imagine that it would be even harder with a wheelchair. Going up isn't a problem, but at times you may have to wait a few cycles when trying to catch a down elevator.

The Dobies were just at PPH for a week and we never had trouble getting on to an elevator.

The hard time I have with thinking of DLH as having the monorail as an option is that...about half the time when we have gone to use the monorail, either in or out of Disneyland, it's down.

The shortcut just means you're going out the front door of PPH and crossing the street to go into the Grand. From the Grand's lobby you either go into the resort guest entrance to DCA (all onsite hotel guests get to use it), or you go the normal way guests would go to DL, which means down a long corridor (there are ramps off to the side) and through the last bit of DTD.


As others have said, I would HIGHLY recommend an ECV for your mom, not a wheelchair. If she's capable of driving herself, it's really going to save your dad.

Thanks everyone so much for the info. I met with my parents and showed them a map of the area, and they decided to spring for the GC instead. My AP rate made if doable for them. I am so excited!! I never thought I would get to stay there. It is a dream come true!!

Also, my Mom won't drive an ECV, so me and my son will be doing most of the pushing except when they go to the room for a nap or an early night. And even then, we might push her there, then go back to the park since its so close. We pushed her around a 10 day trip to DW, so we are used to pushing her around. She doesn't like it, but can't walk more than a few steps, so she just has to do what she has to do.

That is great! We stayed there last year with my parents who had some mobility issues and it was WONDERFUL. The location is fantastic and we loved the hotel.

Can I ask you where you rented one from? Was it local or did you bring one with you? I've contacted a local company near Disneyland but have received no response from an e-mail or a message left via phone so it makes me wonder if it's wise to rent from them.

I know DLR has them for rent along with the strollers but I understand that you cannot take them back to the hotels.

Also, how are they handled upon getting into lines on rides? Will my mom have to park it and stand in line or can she actually take the scooter through the wait lines?

It was delivered to the hotel and waiting for us when we arrived. At DL, we usually went to the exits and then she transferred to the ride. And DCA, the queues are big enough for the scooters to go through.
