what do you do for park tickets and food?

can you get the dining plan if you are using your DVC points?

so many questions.

Yes, you can get the dining plan. The only break DVC members get on tickets is the annual pass. Kepp the questions coming. The more Canadians that belong to DVC the better.

DON'T BUY AN ANNUAL PASS!

It only leads you to go more often!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I buy the Dining plan. I'm on vacation! I don't cook! Heck I rarely cook at home so why would I on vacation!:rotfl2: I love being able to make a decent cup of coffee in the morning! And if we don't get an early start, I'll make a breaky for DD!

We also don't have to pack as much! I throw a load in at night, throw it in the dryer before I head to bed...........Clean clothes for the next day!

After a cruise, I love being able to come home and not worry about doing the laundry!

Next year is gonna be tough since we won't be arriving back into Florida until Labour Day, and we'll have to head straight back home!:scared1:

ok - here goes with the questions

1 how many DVC resorts are there (i think 5)

2 can non DVC guests stay in the same place as DVC guests?

3 - why do you have to buy a particular resort?

4 - do you pay less points to stay at your "home" resort?

5 - what if you wanted to buy more points after your initial purchase

6 - what are the maintenance fees for?

7 - what kind of housekeeping do you get? (every day like the regular resort)

8 - if you "own" animal kingdom can you stay at boardwalk one year?

9 - how long can you save your points for (meaning what if you didn't go for 2 years because you were saving your points for some huge trip with super upgrades)?

10 - what are the hidden fees?

11 - i know everyone talks about what an advantage it is but just what kind of advantage is it - really? i've read people talk about cost but are they taking the yearly fees into account?

12 - cons? there has to be some

13 - if you want boardwalk you have to go through a re-seller - are they trusted? can you find out how many banked or borrowed points are on the person's account?

14 - if you bought in why would you then sell? what might lead someone to sell if it is so popular and everyone i've read posts from LOVES it?

15 - if you couldn't go this year and wanted to rent out your points so you don't loose them how do you do that?

ok - 15 is enough for now LOL

would love to read the different pro's and con's.

We always book a 1 bedroom and get groceries and cook our meals it is much more economical and heck we have a dishwasher in the room so you just load it up and head out. For passes we buy the 10 day non expiry passes and do 5 park days each trip this way we get 2 trips out of each pass. We always tend to go the exact same time each year so an AP woul not benefit us unless we chaged our dates to maximize the use of the pass.

1 how many DVC resorts are there (i think 5)tere are 6 resorts on property and 2 away from Disney

2 can non DVC guests stay in the same place as DVC guests? Yes they can just as DVC members can use their points to stay at the non DVC resorts at Disney.

3 - why do you have to buy a particular resort? That is just the way the sell it once you own you can use your points at any of the resorts.

4 - do you pay less points to stay at your "home" resort? No but you get an 11 month booking window at your home resort rather than 7 months that everyone that doesn't own there gets.

5 - what if you wanted to buy more points after your initial purchase? You can add on through Disney directly or via resale.

6 - what are the maintenance fees for? Insurance maintenance property taxes etc.

7 - what kind of housekeeping do you get? (every day like the regular resort) You get trash and towel service 2 times a week unless you request everyday service at an additional fee.

8 - if you "own" animal kingdom can you stay at boardwalk one year? Yes you can book and stay at any of the DVC resorts if you are a DVC member.

9 - how long can you save your points for (meaning what if you didn't go for 2 years because you were saving your points for some huge trip with super upgrades)? You can bank a year use a current year then borrow the next years points if you have a super duper trip you need that many points for.

10 - what are the hidden fees? There are no hidden fees everything is shown to you up front and no suprises later.

11 - i know everyone talks about what an advantage it is but just what kind of advantage is it - really? i've read people talk about cost but are they taking the yearly fees into account? Yes people are taking the fees into account I can honestly say we have made out like bandits with our DVC membership it has more than paid for itself since we purchased it. We looked at our accomodation costs for our 2 week trips each year and the fact that room costs would increase each year and looked at the cost f DVC and it was hands down a much better way to go for us especially with the size of our family.

12 - cons? there has to be some. Well the only cons I can see are that we didn't buy in earlier.

13 - if you want boardwalk you have to go through a re-seller - are they trusted? can you find out how many banked or borrowed points are on the person's account? All reellers tell you what is in the contract with banked borrowed points etc I would use ether the timesahre store or DVC by resale.

14 - if you bought in why would you then sell? what might lead someone to sell if it is so popular and everyone i've read posts from LOVES it? Finacial situations change resort choice changes we are looking at selling our HHI contract to purchase more points at AKLV marital status changes ie divorce etc.

15 - if you couldn't go this year and wanted to rent out your points so you don't loose them how do you do that? You just post it up here or at any number of boards and people will contact you about them.

F4 AWESOME job! You are the DVC KING my friend.

3. Also to take advantage of the 11 month booking window. That is why they advise, Buy Where You Want to Stay! You have first dibs at your home resort.

13. I've used the Timeshare store 2x and received excelent service!:thumbsup2 The hardest part about re-sale, is waiting for ROFR!

I've also used my points to go to NYC and am using them this summer to go to DLP!

Great answers F4

also
9. What we did for our 2006 trip since we needed so many points with taking the IL's is to bank pts from 2005, use 2006 and borrow the rest we needed from 2007. If you use banking and borrowing you can use 3 yrs worth of points at one time. Creates a terrible illness though called addonitis ;)

Thanks guys I just wish I had proof read my reply before posting it the batteries were dying in my keyboad and there are some serious spelling issues in it due to the keyboard not responding to keystrokes LOL. If there are any more ?'s I am sure there is plenty of people that will be glad to help as I have there is no shortage of DVC knowledge on the Canadian boards from what I have seen. Also an update to #13

You can call down and talk to your guide (you are assigned one when you take the tour) and tell them what you are looking for ie BWV or BCV etc they will put you on a waiting list thus you can still purchase sold out resorts direct from Disney still. Sometimes you will get lucky and it will be available when you call a guide will look at it and say hey we just got X number of points at X resort and you can purchase them then.

It depends where you want to stay and what time of year. The range is from 43 -96 points a night, again depending on where and when. Not a good use of points IMO.
