Very cool! I'm amazed by pumpkin carving talented people~ we did ours last night and were lucky to get pretty good triangle eyes, circle nose and a carved out mouth!

I have never done one like this before, I need to buy a tool to carve it for next year. I used a paring knife today and nicked myself only once. Don't want to use one next year though.

How do you do that? What kind of knife do you use? We can never get any kind of detail in our pumpkins because they are so thick. Do you carve out some of the inside??

I use the pumpkin carving tools that come with the books. Cut off the top, scoop out the inside and scrape it a lot so it is thinner under where you want to carve. I then used a paring knife (but don't want to in the future) to scrape the skin off after criss-crossing the skin a lot to make it smaller and easier.

Great job! Lots of detail went into it. Last year was the first time I tried to do an awesome pumpkin instead of the generic face. It said Trick or Treat but the way it was written it looked like a skull. I used a template to do it so I don't know if thats cheating or not lol heres a link to it if you want to see how it turned out, kinda crappy quality, sorry!
