Another Princess In Town Day One
Mon 1st Wed 3rd June. Myself, Mummy 34 and DD Anna 3 1/3 (2nd trip to dlrp)
See pre trip report
This is my first trip report and sorry it is LONG. I started and couldnt stop!
Warning its mainly about fantasyland and princesses (we didnt even go in half the park and most of the studios!)
We stayed at the Travelodge Ashford Sunday night. Nice hotel lots of eating places within a mins walk had a nice meal at pizza hut. Very pleasant start to the trip. A bit confusing for DD as she walked into the cafe next to reception and wanted to know where Mickey was! (she knew she was going to cafe Mickey)
Mon am we had brekkie at the Travelodge pre booked it was £5.99 for adults kids eat free. Well worth it hot buffet style. Few mins drive to Ashford, parked multi storey level 5, then across bridge to station. Very easy.
DD excited to see mickey sign. Through security and passport in 5 mins whole thing alot less stressful than airport didnt have to remove shoes, watch etc
In the waiting area collected tickets from Disney desk (had paid £15 to add Disney express as Eurostar not booked through Disney but well worth it) gave me a ticket for our bag, park tickets, premium hb vouchers and hotel registration form to complete.
DD didnt have a seat as she was free under 4 but seat next to me was unoccupied. Journey went quickly. First trip on eurostar and impressed will definitely use again.
Arrived - up two escalators with pram DD and bag to drop bag off at Disney express (yes there was a lift but a queue a mile long) then into the Disneyland park.
We were in within 10 mins of arriving! First stop city hall. Two people pushed in front of me whilst I waited (welcome to Disney Paris!) lovely cast member then gave DD the green easy access card (id taken letter from Consultant and DLA award letter) and a print out of my dining reservations.
Got our first ever autograph book at emporium (should have taken my own pen! 2.50e for a biro).
Sat on kerb in shade and phoned husband to say we had made it! Family came and sat next to us all puffing away (welcome to Disney Paris!) Sadly smoking still prevalent worse one was someone smoking over all the little girls in the queue to meet Belle on the royal castle stage..
First pic of DD at Disney!
French bank holiday so the park was mega busy!!!
Long queue at Gibson ice cream so had a twister lolly each from a cart. DDs melted everywhere in heat (thank goodness for babywipes but had run out by day 3 tip from me take loads) and watched party train which I thought was alot more eyecatching than last years train DD liked it.
Mickey party show did catch DDs eye but it looked pretty lame to me (like hsm style) and we didnt make the effort to watch it although we saw bits in passing. DD mainly wanted the metallic ribbons in the trees, once she had a bit of ribbon she was happy.
Mission for the day was ride peter pan as it was shut from 2nd. All fps gone so first time using Easy Access Card got a fp ticket to come back later.
DD was so excited to see Dumbo and asked to go on that first so we did and then carousel.
Watched parade from disabled viewing area next to small world. This was my favourite feature of the Easy access card. DD could watch from her pram with no pushing/jostling. We met some lovely people. Also it spared DD from alot of comments/stares. This was my least favourite disabled viewing area, we tried all 3. Parade same as I remembered but Ariel and Jasmine were walking (last year Ariel was on a float with her tail on) both loved it saw it all 3 days.
Then small world (DDs fave ride as a 2 year old and again a massive hit DD pointing at everything) teacups (massive hit tie for fave ride with buzz) and peter pan (v jerky I was still underwhelmed and DD didnt like the dark or jerkiness her balance is not good and I really had to hold her despite the bar).
Walked to Newport bay via lake to check in. When you enter from the lake side with a pram you need to go upstairs to reception there is a lift tucked away to the left near the fish tank. This was the only thing that I would fault about Newport as each time I came in that way there was a queue for the lift seemed a daft design when lots of guests have prams. Other than that minor quibble was very impressed with hotel and would stay again.
DD started to fall asleep in the pram in the village on the way to the hotel so I picked up a happy meal for DD later (4e) I was hot and not hungry.
Check in v quick no queues. Brekkie tickets left were for 8.45 but I was told to ignore time and go when I wanted. I was offered option of GMF at plaza gardens. Had rung disney 3 weeks before and requested a room near reception and got a lakeview room just off reception which was ideal. DD napped in pram and I had a nap. DD woke up 7ish starving and sat in bed and devoured the happy meal. She was impressed with the yoghurt drink included said it tasted pink!
We collected our bag from the luggage room just outside the hotel main entrance again v quick and the staff were very sweet with DD. Then got the bus back into the park.
Buses alot more civilised than last year at Cheyenne. Never busy and no pushing. Bonus was I could push the pram on rather than folding it.
In the bandstand opposite city hall were Ariel, Maleficent and ?. A real srum. DD surprised me and wanted to go to Ariel (her first princess meeting) so we waited 10 mins or so and DD scrummed through. This Ariel was lovely (we saw her again in the studios parade Tue. She spent a couple of mins and was really sweet with DD despite the scrum of people. No camera or autograph book with us though!!(silly mummy)
Got on the railroad in discoveryland for a circuit of the park. It was v busy both me and DD underwhelmed she preferred the hotel bus.
Nearly 9 and park closing, Buzz had no queue as we went past so I thought give it a go. Told DD you had to shoot aliens she was surprisingly keen but concerned she didnt have a gun!? Told her they gave you a shooter! Well it was a HUGE hit. She got 700 her first turn and her best was 2600. Only ride she asked to go on at brekkie the next day.
Id tired ribbons on the pram but good thinking on behalf of the person with the same pram as me they parked next to me which definitely made me check I had the correct one!
Tried to have a browse in the shops on the way out but impossible with DD full of it and wanting everything!
Mickey was on main street station bit waving goodnight.
Back at hotel DD still hyper (if she has any form of nap she is awake until midnight!) so we both had a bath to wind down.
One of my favourite memories is DD singing its a small world in the bath.
