His Bigger Plan
By Carson Richards

This is the story of a boy,
Or maybe he was a man
Because he had a different plan
Than all the other kids
From the time he was only five
He knew he would make it big
That’s when he started striving
For the best
He made great grades
And aced every test
The other kids always laughed at him
And called him a nerd
But he just pretended that wasn’t what he heard

This time around,
His age fourteen
He always kept it clean
With his girlfriend,
Who said she was his until the end
But that wasn’t true
Cuz just out of the blue
She was gone with some other guy
And he wouldn’t give up on life
No he knew he would make it big, he still had to try
But it’s hard keeping everything together
When your parent’s relationship begins to whether
He knew he had to stay strong

One day he decided he was going to try
To be like the other guys
He hung out with them for a while
But my-oh-my
No he couldn’t do it
So he continued to go the extra mile
On all that he did
Because he knew someday he would make it big

Now he’s 18,
His parents are divorced
But of course
He carries on
He’s in Harvard political science
And all the kids are still feeling defiance
Because they don’t see his bigger plan
He will become the man
They all try to be
He would force them to see
That he was right, all along
And that he stood strong
Through all the hard times…

But he felt that he committed a crime
To himself
By putting his youth on the shelf
Yeah, he missed out
So it caused him to shout
All these hateful words at his dad
Trying to explain why he was so mad
That all his life he was completely sad
But they didn’t do anything about it
All they did was put him back in the crib
With those pathetic counselors
And how that actually hurt him more
Because he was strong all alone
And didn’t need help…

So today, now he’s 38
And he was right,
He turned out great
He’s now the head of state
Laughing in the faces
Of all the other kids
Who couldn’t see?
He would make it big

Something still bothers him deep inside
He’s retired now, age 65
His kids are grown up
And his wife sadly died
Only a short time ago
All it took was one blow
To make him start deteriorating away
But he thought back to that day
When everyone said
He wouldn’t be anything
That it was all in his head
Now he thinks it wasn’t worth it
Because all the time those kids wasted
Is nothing compared
To the tears that he’s facin’
Because the last trace
Of his childhood
Is completely gone
Since he never really had one
He told me to take this advice
And don’t throw it away,
Instead read it twice
Don’t give up on your life
When things are looking down
Get that frown
Off your face
And live life
To it’s fullest
