Another passport ?

I read somewhere that your passport actually expires two weeks before the expiry date listed on it.
Can anyone confirm this
We will be coming back home about a week before the expiry date on our passports.

You are supposed to have 6 months left on your passport before expiration when travelling now.

I read that they recommend your passport being valid for 3 - 6 months after you get home from traveling but when I was traveling to Europe (or maybe it was Cuba) I asked about this and they told not to worry by my TA and they were right - no one mentioned it or seemed to care. You can always call the passport or border office.

My DH and I drove across the border a few months ago and we gave the guard his passport. He swiped it and handed it back. While driving I looked and it was expired! The guard never said anything at all. I don't recommend this of course guess we were just lucky!

Just remember..an Airline 'can' refuse you travel if there are not 6 months remaining. This happened to a friend-travelling with his wife to Athens and she is Greek. AC refused him travel though his Passport expired 2+ weeks after his return to Canada. She went with the 2 kids and Passport Canada rushed his renewal and he followed the next evening. I would not be taking the chance that you will have no problem.

DH was refused a flight for not having sufficient time remaining on his passport; and it was on a flight from Ottawa to Boston. So yes, airlines do look at the dates and can/will deny boarding access. I would suggest getting your passports updated *before* you travel, to ensure you don't run into any unplesantries.

I think it has a lot to do with the Country's requirements that you are travelling to. My Uncle was working and living in Thailand and his passport was expiring in six months, and he could travel anywhere. He had to go to the Canadian Consolet to have a new one issued. He wasn't even allowed on a flight back to Canada. Countries will not let you in if your passport is about to expire out of fear that you will not leave, or be able to leave if your passport expires.
